A Crappy Hour is Good Enough to Maintain League
By: Matt | December 15th, 2008
After perhaps the worst hour of football Celtic had played this year, the Bhoys were still able to draw with a resurgent Hearts side. Andrew Driver got the visitors a goal in the 23rd minute with a low driving shot. As soon as the Capital side got onto the scoreboard, they seemed content on putting 11 behind the ball and defending the lead with all of its might. Hearts were aided by a Celtic squad struggling to put together any type of scoring chance. It took the Bhoys until the 30th minute to attempt their first attempt on goal, when Andres Hinkel sent a careless Hearts clearance over the bar. The rest of the game saw Celtic maintain much of the posession and Hearts use an all hands on deck defending approach. This included some blatant time wasting on Hearts part. Celtic finally found an equalizer in the 79th minute, when Shunsuke Nakamura put in a cross from the right side that Georgios Samaras headed down and Stephen McManus put into the back of the net. Once again, Scottish referees showed their incompetence in the closing minutes by only awarding three minutes of injury time, despite 6 subs being used, a few injuries, and pretty unsportsmanlike time wasting tactics by Hearts, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. With Rangersdrawing Dundee United earlier in the day, Celtic’s lead in the SPL remained 4 points, with an important match up between the two coming up in two weeks. With the poor performance at home, Celtic missed a great opportunity to extend their lead in the league. After a loss last week and a tie this week, hopefully Celtic is not repeating the poor performance in December of last year.

As poor as we’ve looked, They’ve looked worse. A good thumping of Falkirk will help get the Bhoys on track!
