Aideninho inks new deal
By: Matt | July 17th, 2008
Scottish Players Association and Celtic Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year, Aiden McGeady, has signed a new five year deal today. McGeady was often the lone bright spot during the dulldrums of December and March and earned both the awards and the pay raise he is sure to be getting. This transfer season, Celtic have now resigned the top scorer in the SPL and the Player of the Year, which is not a bad off season. There is no word whether or not Aiden’s awards or paychecks will be sent to Nacho Novo’s pocket, but I think I speak for all Celtic fans when I thank Mr. Novo for not only his red card the last day against Aberdeen, but for letting Aiden out of his pocket to sign a new deal and collect his awards. Cheers, Nacho. There were rumors that EPL rivals Newcastle and Sunderland were looking at McGeady’s services, but their bids have gone begging. Perhaps the most exciting quote of the day comes from McGeady when he said “I think I can go on and progress as a player and I can see myself doing that and achieving even more with Celtic. There was never any chance of me leaving and going to England this summer.”
It was not much of a secret that Aiden was very close to late first team coach Tommy Burns. For a crucial part of Aiden’s career, Tommy was their to guide him and mold him into the type of player that he is today. By his admittance, McGeady would not be the player he is today and this is a testament to Burns and his skills as a coach. Not only was Tommy Burns a great man and player for Celtic, but he is responsible for many of the recent successes of Celtic as well as hopefully continued successes. I think Tommy and Aiden’s relationship is best described in this picture.
