Boruc happy at Celtic
By: Matt | August 5th, 2008
Despite signing a new contract keeping him here untill 2011 last summer, Artur Boruc has been speculated with moving away from Celtic this summer. Sunderland, Newcastle, Bayern Munich, and Milan have all been linked with having interest in the Holy Goalie, yet today Boruc has been quoted as saying “I’m still here and happy with that.” After a impressive Euro 2008 campaign with Poland, where he was often times the only player on the field giving the Poles a chance at victory, there was fear on the Timernet that the big boys will be calling for Boruc’s services. While that Euro masterpiece certainly drove up any possible asking price, Celtic stuck to their guns for now and Boruc remains in the Hoops. The Holy Goalie continued by saying “There was no point in me changing club for a team that was a similar size to Celtic but one which does not always make the Champions League or have 60,000 fans behind you. To me there is no point when I have all that at Celtic. I’m really happy in my football and in my life right now. I have a new child and things are settled with my football and that’s good. The aim for this season is simple - win the title again for the fourth season and then do better in the Champions League.”
While I will not brag about Celtic’s place in the Champions League and the blue side of town’s crashing out tonight (okay, besides the picture), there is a financial bonus to tonight’s comedy in Lithuania. Because Celtic will be the only SPL team in the Champions League, they will receive an additional 2.5 million quid in TV money.
Boruc’s reaffirmation and Rangers’ crashing out of Europe has also distracted from a busy day of the “Yes he will, no he won’t sign” game. There have been rumors abound the Timernet today. Some sources are claiming that Gabriel Tamas has finally been told to fuck off because Celtic have been able to sign “their top target” who still remains a mystery. Some are guessing it is Christoph Metzelder, some are saying it is Marko Basa from Le Mans. Most of these rumors are saying we announce this mystery defender and Marc Crosas as officially Celtic players tomorrow before the Man City friendly. Stay tuned if any, half, or none of these latest batch of rumors.
