Breaking Capital Hearts
By: Matt | November 3rd, 2008
For many Celtic fans, Hearts is a team that ranks just below Rangers on the disgust scale. The Edinburgh side has a fan base with many of the same *ahem* characteristics as Rangers supporters. Huns without the bus fare indeed. Many of these “characteristics” reared their ugly head this past Sunday, which is why it was enjoyable to see Celtic cruise to a 2-0 victory at Tynecastle. Shaun Maloney got things going early on for Celtic with a world class screamer of a volley after a Andres Hinkel free kick just 7 minutes in. Gary Caldwell finished not quite as impressive of a goal 13 minutes later after a goalmouth scramble and that would be all the Celtic would need for the day. Celtic had another chance to add to the goal tally after Hearts Marius Zaliukas took Scott McDonald down in the box and earned himself a red card, but Paul Hartley sent the resulting penalty wide of the net. It was the only troublesome event of the day, as Celtic continue to seemingly struggle from the spot this year. Overall, Celtic dominated play for 90 minutes in a venue that is not always the easiest to play in. No player seemed to have a poor performance and the game saw much improved play from the struggling Andres Hinkel, Stephen McManus, and Barry Robson. Cillian Sheridan also put forth another good effort up top and might be a worthy candidate of getting the nod for the starting XI this Wednesday against Manchester United.

The Celts are steamrolling through the SPL. Their fine form and resulting wins are much needed confidence boosters prior to this Wednesday’s tilt against Man U. Frankly, they need all the confidence they can get.
I will be happy with a draw against Man U at Celtic Park. Shit, I’ll take a loss so long as the Bhoys put up a good fight. I’d like to see Skoosh drill a ball into Wayne Rooney’s face. Just thought I’d get that out there.

Chris-Can’t ask for a better match leading up to the game on Wednesday. I think we’ll see a better performance out of Celtic to. Perhaps I’m just optimistic, but I believe we’ll at least get a point!
