Brown and O’Dea involved in Pub fight

By: Matt | August 11th, 2008

In the early morning hours, Scott Brown and Darren O’Dea were involved in a pub fight outside the Bamboo Club in Glasgow’s city centre. Midfielder Scott Brown was attacked by two men, ages 18 and 19, but at least for now there are no injuries to report. However, young defender Darren O’Dea was arrested in connection to the incident for a breach of the peace. After being charged, O’Dea was released. The two other young men involved in the incident were also arrested. While these players are all adults, all professional athletes attract a certain amount of attention when out in public. You are always going to have idiots who are going to want to confront players from their rival’s team and when combined with liquid courage only bad things can happen. There is no good reason for two of these athletes to be out at 2:30 AM, especially on a Monday night. You can have a pop or two, but get back to your house/appartment/whatever. Have a party at your flat, but when you are a high profile athlete in a town like Glasgow, you are asking for trouble being out that late. And all of these factors are doubled due to the fact that these two young men are involved in the Celtic-Rangers rivalry. It might be a decent theory to guess that these two other young men involved could be Rangers fans. That is not a indictment of Rangers fan, as if it were Barry Ferguson and Nacho Novo out on Glasgow’s east end, the same thing would probably happen. These football players should really use their head in situations like these.

No injuries? Was Broony taking it easy then??
It’s always a fine line regarding what players should do or be able to do though they should be able to go for a wee drink in a city centre club without some clown annoying them (don’t agree with your analogy about the East End as it’s not as if Darren and co were in Kinning Park or Bridgeton, they were in city centre of a supposedly modern city).

I don’t think they should be caged up or anything David. They should be able to go out and have a drink and a romp if they fancy, but perhaps head home before 230 in the morning. Even without drunk Huns trying to be tough guys, there’s usually nothing good that can come at that time. All the good looking birds have already left the club at that point… :D

Oh, and to add to the “caged up” part. Everyone should be able to do what they want, except Aiden. I want him in a protective bubble all the time when he is not playing…haha!

    A little dust-up after a pint and sing-song – what’s the harm?

It’s no harm for you and me Rex, but for multi-million dollar footballers, there might be a problem. I don’t want some Hun seeing Aiden and pulling a knife on him or something like that.

Honestly, as long and Brown and McGeady weren’t arrested, I’m alright with it.
