Celtic-0 Dundee United-0-Awful Waffle

Bummed Naka
Shite. Pure and utter shite. You might never hear me say this, but besides Evander Sno and the back 4, the entire team was AWFUL! Sno did well, had some decent long balls, and held possession. That’s what he is supposed to do. He’s not going to get a million goals, but we don’t need him to. Theoretically when you have Nakamura, Scott McDonald, Aiden McGeady, and company, a guy who holds possession is good. But when Scott Brown dribbles to the top of the box only to lose the ball about 8 times and no one else can create anything. Ronaldinho in Sno’s place won’t do much good.
No real gaffes from the back four, besides Stephen McManus letting a header almost go by him. However, that was mostly due to the injury he picked up and Ginger Baws not having the sense to take him off. United had a few chances, but nothing to write home about and certainly weren’t deserved of a win, however they played good defense and definitely were worthy of a tie. Hopefully this propels them Sunday to a win, as I said earlier, Rangers not winning hardware is always good.

So what to do about the futility seen today? Well, all three main strikers got a run. Skippy had a few howlers for shots today, reminiscent of a certain former fat Rangers striker. Big Jan had a header that was a perfectly served cross from McGeady that he flew over the cross bar. Samaras had a few chances, but obviously did not convert. For now, I like the striker by committee plan.

The midfield is becoming the new “back line” in terms of frustration. Scott Brown should get to know the bench, because after that performance, he doesn’t deserve to start for the reserves. Hopefully a little time on the pine pony wakes him up out of the three month long funk he’s been in. McGeady had some decent crosses today and had his usual allotment of fancy footwork. Naka might have gotten out toughed today, as he often does against physical backs, but nearly had a beauty of a free kick from about 25 yards out that seemed to curve almost like a boomerang. Sno was mentioned earlier, and Robson didn’t do anything to gain my wrath or stand out. Over the weekend, I’d like to see McGeady, Donati, Sno (or Robson), and Naka.

The Bhoys had better bounce back quickly from this one. Motherwell is fighting with Dundee United for third and Europe next year and it is sure to be an emotional match with the first Celtic v Motherwell match since the passing of Phil O’Donnell (that is if the Motherwell pitch isn’t a lake). While a tie isn’t ideal, we still have at least three matches against Rangers and taking 4 points out of the week is better than two or even one.

Not sure what happened there? Pressed the space bar and my comment was submitted.

What I was going to say is that against teams like Dundee Utd we should have moved things around a bit. We can pin teams like them back and the more we attack the less we need to defend.

I’d play with 3 at the back with Hartley or Sno getting back to help the defence. Light-weight Naka is much better feeding the strikers with his slick passes and Aiden and Robson (and possibly Koki at some point) delivering the crosses.

JVOH would be left-back (in the changing rooms!)

    Boruc
    Hinkel McManus Naylor
    McGeady Brown Hartley/Sno Robson
    Naka
    McDonald Samaras

@Evans-Yes, it’s been a lot of matches at once, but there isn’t any rest for the weary here. We have another basically must win match against Motherwell this weekend and then the cup replay on Tuesday. There’s no time to rest if Celtic even want to have a shot at three in a row. No time for dropped points. Rangers are going to face a time where they a schedule like we are facing now, but it’s not assured that they will drop points.

@Vini-That’s an interesting formation and I got to say I like it. Dundee didn’t have much possession and only created one or two scoring chances. My only concern would be Naka in the middle. Against physical backs on the wing he often disappears, so how would he fare against Center Backs? Although I don’t think we’ll see Ginger Baws making any changes as usual…

Scott Brown needs to gtf for a few games at least.

Im sick and tired of people saying how great he is. He was great for the fucking hibs never for Celtic. Get your tartan colored sunglasses off and judge him for what he is.. a guy right now that is not good enough for celtic but could be one day.

Absolute crap - I’m surprised they allowed Brown to stay on. Still, I’m not convinced Sno/Donati or Robson/Donati with Naka and Aiden is a much better alternative.
