Celtic 1-Cork City 0
By: Matt | September 10th, 2009
In a friendly created to help Cork City with their financial problems, a Celtic XI defeated the Cork men 1-0 today. The only goal of the game came in the eleventh minute from Paddy McCourt. McCourt took a short corner from Graham Carey, ran at a Cork full-back and juked into space inside the box. Then McCourt lashed an unstoppable drive into the top corner from 15 yards and netted the only goal of the game. Celtic was managed by Neil Lennon and Danny McGrain, and saw the first start for Barry Robson since last February. Robson was able to last the full 90 minutes, which was a good sign. Hopefully we will see Robson in a starting XI, especially with both the suspensions and injuries plaguing the Bhoys after the international break. Mark Wilson also continued his recovery from injury yesterday, putting forth a 90 minute shift as well. Marc Crosas and Koki Mizuno were the other first team players who started for Lennon at Turner’s Cross. Hopefully, this friendly was able to generate the necessary funds for the Rebels, who have been struggling financially for a few years now.
