Celtic FC honored Tommy Burns today with a tribute match. Tommy Burns was a gentleman and a true Bhoy through and through. With the Celtic Coaching position recently becoming vacated, there has been a lot of talk in the Tim-ernet about whether or not the next manager should be “Celtic Minded” or not. Now, I may not know what exactly being “Celtic Minded” is, but I know Tommy Burns was just that. Tommy was the perfect ambassador to the club and was loved not only within the Celtic family, but throughout all of Scotland. The Celtic first team took on a former teammates and players of Tommy’s for an entertaining match. The Tommy Burns Select Team saw the likes of Packie Bonner, a rather round Big John Hartson, Roy Keane, Paolo Di Canio, and Pierre Van Hooijdonk among others back in the Hoops to honor Tommy. The older and perhaps less match fit Tommy Burns Select brought back numerous memories for Celtic supporters, but were no match for the first team, losing 11-4. For the first team, (and probably the first time these words were ever typed or read) Lee Naylor led the way with a hat trick, while Cadete, Keane, Hartson, and Walker put the Tommy Burns team on the board.
