Celts can’t come back from the dead at Easter Road
By: Matt | December 8th, 2008Celtic’s 12 game unbeaten streak came to an abrupt halt on Sunday when they traveled to Easter Road and suffered a 2-0 defeat to Hibernian. The defeat marked the first time Celtic was held scoreless this SPL campaign, as well as the first time in eight years that Celtic had not scored in a match against Hibs. Apparently, Hibs got a hold of my weekend preview of the match, where I predicted an open, free flowing game and where I called both teams two of the best offensive teams in Scotland. Mixu and co. decided to give me two fingers, putting in seemingly six defenders to pack in the back, resulting in a scoreless and dull first half. Easter Road has been home to many of the few howlers that Artur Boruc has allowed in his career, and on Sunday the Holy Goalie has added to that list when John Rankins sent a 45 yard “shot” Boruc’s way. Boruc misplayed the ball and it trickled into the net. If the Holy Goalie’s stock had never been higher after this summer’s Euro 2008 tournament, he too has felt a “recession” this season with some sloppy performances and rumors of spending some time “out on the town” back home in Poland. It’s now onto Tuesday’s Friendly League or Champions Friendly, take your pick, between Celtic and Villareal at Celtic Park. There’s not much to play for besides pride for either team. Celtic will probably see a mix of youngsters and players such as Georgios Samaras and Aiden McGeady, who are returning from injury and looking to regain form.

Inexcusable.
Well, life in the SPL gets a little more interesting; but, it goes on.
The next two league matches could the the turning point of the season. Two wins, especially over Rangers, and we can breathe a little easier.
I’m not too worried about Boruc. I’m more worried about getting some fire power back on the field. What’s the status of JVH and Donati?

What’s going on with Koki Mizuno? Is he simply one for the future or is he going to go the way of Kleberson and Eric Djemba Djemba at Manchester United and simply fade? Not that he arrived with the inflated reputation of that pair mind, but interesting to see how he’s been used so sparingly when Celtic went through the effort of recruiting him!

Nick-It was an ugly game for the Bhoys to say the least. Hearts are such a mystery to me. They have games where they dominate Rangers, but they have games where they lay an egg as well. Which Hearts will we see? Which Celtic will we see as well? Hopefully Tuesday will help rehabilitate players like Aiden and Sammy. Heard nothing about Donati or Big Jan, I’d assume they’re still out.
Martyn-Koki’s been doing well in the reserves for Celtic. Right now, there’s a surplus of midfielders for the Bhoys and Koki’s a youngster anyways. If Naka and another midfielder leave in January, we might see more of the likes of Koki and Paddy McCourt, espeically if Celtic can rebuild a bigger lead on Rangers in the SPL. If it remains close, I’d expect Koki to see the line up next year more.

Sit Boruc. He’s been a tit all year and now his play is suffering.
