Cervi more clever than Guzan

The Geore Murisan of American goalkeeping, Dominic Cervi is looking for a move to Parkhead, and is was on trial with the team in April. Cervi is 6ft. 6inches, was included in the recent US National Team player pool for friendlies against England, Spain, and Argentina despite being only 21 years old, and has played for the US National U23 Team in Olympic qualifying matches. He was also a first round draft pick of the MLS side, the Chicago Fire but rejected the meager $32,000 minimum contract offered by the Fire, which would seem to be a good idea if he can land a spot on Celtic. Cervi is not the first American Keeper that Celtic had their eye on, as during the January transfer window Celtic went after Brad Guzan only to have Guzan choose Aston Villa. Unfortunately for Guzan, he was turned down for a work permit in the UK. Cervi might have similar problems, but it seems the young American has a back-up plan in such an instance were to occur.
As you might guess by his name, Cervi has a bit of Italian background in his family. So much so, that Cervi is eligible for an Italian Citizenship. If Cervi is able to secure Italian citizenship, then he would be able to bypass the requirements that Guzan was not able to meet. With attempts to secure a young keeper, I am trying to convince myself that Celtic are trying to bring in someone who can learn from the Holy Goalie for a year, sell Boruc for a tidy profit, and have the young keeper ready the next year. However, with coach Neil Lennon giving quotes like this “If Artur has a good Euro 2008 we might get an offer that might be impossible to keep him,” said Celtic coach Lennon. “We want to hold on to our better players, but if you’ve got a ridiculous offer it might be hard to refuse” makes me think that Celtic will be selling their “Holy Goalie” this summer.
