Flood affects Hampden and Celtic Park.
By: Matt | January 29th, 2009
When it rains, it certainly pours for Irish International Willo Flood (see what I did there?). Yesterday, Flood bounced one off of the bar for his current club Dundee United during the penalty shoot out of the CIS Cup Semi-Final against Celtic, which ultimately cost United the game. Er, tough luck about your penalty….*awkward silence*, So, Welcome to Celtic! Today, Flood was seen at Celtic Park to sign a deal to move him to Celtic. Flood was in Dundee on loan from Cardiff City and the Tangerines tried their best to sign the Irishman, but the big money of Celtic seemed to be too much to ignore. Of course, Willo changes sides ex post facto after Celtic grinded out a 11-10 shootout victory that saw Artur Boruc make two saves, one in which the BBC decided to change channels on the viewing public as Glen Loovens stepped up to try and win it for Celtic. Most missed Loovens being saved by future Celtic keeper Lukazs Zaluska. After 10 penalties, it was still tied meaning it was the goalies turn to step up to the spot. Zaluska sent his countryman the wrong way and kept the ball low and into the net. Artur Boruc would have none of that playing it safe stuff for his penalty. Boruc’s form wasn’t text book, but he side footed a ball into the first 90 of the goal, just getting it in under the bar. A few weeks ago, the Holy Goalie talked of wanting to score for Celtic and he achieved just that, and in a big spot too. After Boruc’s goal, the HG took his place in the net and watched future teamate Willo Flood boink one off the cross bar. Scott McDonald stepped up after that and coolly netted home the winner. So, it is on to the final where Rangers awaits on March 15th in Hampden.

Would have rather had Sacha Kljestan…

I’ve watched Boruc’s penalty 30 times and I still can’t tell if it’s ridiculous skill, luck, or divine intervention. No matter, that might have been the most unsaveable penalty ever taken.

DaMonsta-Divine intervention is a good theory as I literally think there was no room between the ball and the crossbar. He is the Holy Goalie after all…:D
