Former Rangers player pushing friend to Celtic? Leeds says no on 7 figures for Riordan
By: Matt | June 3rd, 2008
In the past few days, Celtic has been linked with Croatian midfielder Jerko Leko (jokes write themselves with that name!). The Croation international is currently preparing for Euro 2008. Reportedly, Celtic is offering 3 Million pounds for Leko to his current club Monaco. Leko’s agent has said that there will be no decision until Leko’s tour of duty is finished with the Croation National Team in Euros, but has also said that “(he) knows that that Celtic are looking for this type of player.” Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this story is the fact that Leko has been talking with former Rangers player Dado Prso, and surprisingly Prso has talked up Celtic and the historic rivalry between the two Glasgow teams. Damir Josic, Leko’s agent has said of the two’s relationship “”Dado and Jerko live close to each other between Nice and Monte Carlo and meet regularly, Dado only has positive things to say about Scotland and the rivalry between Celtic and Rangers.” It’s not often you hear of a former Rangers player selling a friend and countryman on the Green side of Glasgow.
Disenfranchised Celtic striker Derek Riordan remains at the club still, despite English Championship sides Leeds United and Burnley showing interest. Leeds have publicly said that they are unwilling to pay Celtic’s 1 million pound price tag. No word on whether Leeds or Burnley are interested in “someone’s granny”, “the jakey”, or “blind mick the whistle player”.
