Fortune and N’Guemo Officially Signed
By: Matt | July 8th, 2009
After passing his physical yesterday, Celtic have officially announced that Marc-Antoine Fortune has thumbed his nose at the EPL, and signed with Celtic for less money that the likes of Hull, West Ham, and Portsmouth. This is the second time that Celtic have gotten over the leagues down south, first getting Tony Mowbray to coach for half of the “hard-line demand” that West Brom held, and now finding a player who chose the prospect of playing for a potentially good team instead of relegation fodder and big bucks of England. All kidding aside, it is a bit refreshing to see a player chose a club based on their merits and not the money offered. Tony Mowbray was upfront saying he wanted Fortune, but Celtic wouldn’t be able to match the wages that the EPL teams would be able to offer. Fortune scored 5 goals in 17 games last season while on loan at West Brom, which isn’t a overwhelming record, but let’s remember they have a decent defender or two in the EPL. Joining Fortune will be his Nancy teammate Landry N’ Guemo, who was loaned to Celtic for a year, with Celtic having the option to buy at the end of the year.
Fortune said of joining Celtic “This is where I want to be. Having met the people at the club and knowing all about the club’s fantastic pedigree and support, this is where I saw my future. I am looking forward to the challenge of winning the league title, competing for the cups and playing in Europe, in front of the Celtic supporters. I am also looking forward to working with my manager, Tony Mowbray, once again. I had a great experience with him, Mark Venus and Peter Grant in the Premiership last season and I am looking forward to now working with him at one of Europe’s biggest football clubs.”
Fortune will officially join up with the first-team squad today, ahead of the team’s trip to Australia for the pre-season game against Brisbane Roar. He will be officially unveiled as a Celtic player at a press conference at Celtic Park tomorrow morning. He’s hoping that Fortune will be creating more braces like he did against Newcastle. Welcome to Celtic, Marc!

Celtic Shirts-I’m somewhat optimistic about him. He’s a big, fast striker. He’s got some strength on him apparently, and I think that’s the skill set that’ll do well in the SPL.

Hail! Hail!
I’ll take TM at his word when he states Fortune chose football over finance. TM admonished the press last week “remember that when you’re writting about ‘em”
Seems MAF’s greatest strengths are what he does off the ball and how that will help midfield.
Of all this saga, I personally feel the most important thing has been the retention of Lennon as liason to the 1st team and the lack of a winger / offensive midfielder signed…including Chris Commons
I can only hope this means McCourt, Mizuno, Flood and McGeady will be fit to battle-it-out for places and they will all see consistent, if not regular first-team action this season.
‘Mon the Hoops!

Derby came out and said there was no bid for Commons, but I hope and think that will change soon. Even if we don’t get him, I think ToMo’s 4-3-3 will see McGeady-Crosas-Brown, with N’Guemo first off the bench for Crosas and Koki for McGeady or Brown. If we do get Commons, it’d indicate to me that either McGeady will be sold or Mogga doesn’t have faith in the other current wingers.
