FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-: Rage Post

By: Matt | February 3rd, 2009

You might just think the title of this post is the sound that I made Sunday afternoon after Celtic squandered chances and left Caledonian Stadium goaless and only with a point, you would be mistaken however. The title of the post is instead the sound I made Monday afternoon as the transfer window closed and I realized that Gordon Strachan and company signed sweet fuck all to help with our wee left back problem, along with realizing that we had a scoreless draw the day before against relegation bound Caley. FUUUUUUUUUUUU- indeed. No proven players were signed the entire window, with Celtic landing some last minute deals for some youngsters, which seem to be a dime a dozen these days with Celtic. Celtic now host Rangers next week only enjoying a two point lead in the league, and the title race is very much on. Celtic have a week to think about it however, as they take on Queen Park in the Scottish Cup this weekend, a preview of which is forthcoming this week. After a frustrating week for Celtic fans, hopefully a thrashing of Queens Park is order.

Dude, that is exactly how I felt, especially since a week before I was the one crowing.

But I’m trying to calm down, saying, hey the treble hopes are still alive and if it were easy it wouldn’ta be our Bhoys, now wood it?

It’s true that is hasn’t been easy lately, but that might be the most frustrating part. By all accounts, Rangers are in a terrible financial position right now and the Celtic board had a chance of putting the foot on the throat simply by making a couple of first team investments but did not, so it will remain close when it shouldn’t.

Its a frustrating, nerve racking time to be a Celtic supporter. But like Martek says, what’s new about that? It sucks, but in some perverse way its part of the fun. Assuming they keep the title in the East End, of course.

I suppose it would be cool to be supporter of say, Man Utd, what with their wads of cash, world class players in reserve, and variety of titles. But we’re not, and to be honest, I’m glad. There is always some emotional wave to ride with Celtic, and that’s a large part of what keeps many supporters attached to club for generations.

Are Celtic that dependent on Maloney to create and score goals? They did it last year with the same crew w/out Maloney, so why can’t they score now? Maybe its just the weather and things will pick up come March. Let’s just hope they haven’t dug too big a hole for themselves by then. I’m a little worried at the moment, but hey, what’s new about that?

A fair point Monsta and I’m not saying I have Man Who “supporter” like expectations, but most people weren’t expecting Celtic to sign Kaka or anything. Most just wanted to see a reasonable investment in a first team Leftback.

If you remember, we struggled scoring goals in a stretch last year as well. I don’t think Maloney is the end all be all answer to our problems right now, but it’d be nice to have another creative player in the mix.

    FUUUUUUUUUUUU indeed.
Absolutely gutted that the two targets which were for most fans a must have, (Shabba Husky & Marky Chequebook), didn’t materialise. To say I’m slightly miffed is like saying that Ghengis Khan was slightly right of centre with his foreign policy. Only one way to say it, we got shafted well and truly by the board, NOT by Gord but by the suits who have proven time and again that they don’t give a toss about us the fans. Remember this time last year? How did you feel when it came out that we actually had two signings for left back blown off by the board after the huns lost a game? DD, JR & PL have given us and the Ginja Ninja a great big Fuck You. The question that has to be asked is WHY? Is it Naivety on the part of PL? Is it arrogance and greed on the part of JR? Is it criminal indifference on the part of DD? I believe all of the above and more! Money was available, two targets were identified as being must have, yet nothing gets done. So to get to the ‘and more’ bit, could it possibly be…Naw surely not…Cos if it is…
In my darkest paranoia driven nightmares there is an inconceivable delusion beginning to germinate, what if there was a decision taken in the board room that it would not be in the interests of Scottish football nor Celtic PLC, (god how those three letters are starting to give me sour reflux and rancid flatulence), to see those vile and disgusting oxygen thieves KKK FC go bust?
Naw it cannae be, like I said, it’s just delusional paranoia right?
    Isn’t it?

Oh, and while I’m in rage mode, how pathetic is it that even loan moves couldn’t be thrashed out?
With each passing hour I become more convinced that there is more to this than meets the eye or will ever be made public. Well, I think I can honestly say that they’ve shot themselves in the foot with this one as all I’ve been hearing about are fans planning financial protests ranging from not spending one penny at CP or on merchandise or on fund raising projects to non renewal of season tickets. I for one have scrapped plans for my albeit infrequent trips to CP for the rest of the season, (I usually work my ass off to get back 3 or 4 times a season circumstances permitting, (a not inconsiderable expenditure of circa €500 a pop)) and will be cancelling my subscription to CH67 premium also for the rest of this season and possibly next season as well. It hurts me tangibly to have to take this course of action, but it is the only option left open for me, e-mails and letters asking for enlightenment are studiously ignored, supporters and supporter’s groups are treated with contempt, the manager is not supported and the product on the park stinks. Bizarre decision follows bizarre decision year after year, so that the suits can congratulate themselves and other fat cats that the club is a model of financial solidity and business excellence, well this time they’ve gone too far, and if they’re arrogant and stupid enough to think that everything will just dissappear if and when the Ginja Ninja pulls the rabbit out of the hat AGAIN, well I for one believe that they’ve got a nasty shock coming to them. Nothing short of the Treble will do, the fans demand it and will accept nothing less, anything less will spark a division amongst the supporters that hasn’t been seen since the disastrous capitulation to Artmedia and it will herald a backlash against the club that will leave the suits ‘astounded of forehead’. ‘I want you to get up out of your seat, open the window, stick your head out and shout “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore”.

HR-You are not the only who has put forth the idea that the PLC does not want Rangers to be Espanyoled, and they might not to a sense, but I don’ think that is all of it. I think that they believe that the fans will still come, buy their replica top and other merchandise as long as we are just better than them. They don’t see a need to get better, because financially we are all still giving them money even when they don’t make any moves and improve the squad. I don’t think there is a conspiracy, I just think that there is a false sense of contentment on the board.

Matt, You’re probably, (sadly enough), right. Of course I wasn’t inferring that the board was involved in a conspiracy with skinty’s manky mob, that would be going too far, but I do believe that they have taken the decisions they have because they believe that in the long run it will be better for everybody. What they have failed to take into consideration, and in doing so have seriously misjudged the mood of the support, is the all too painful and vivid memory of what happened when we were in ‘their’ position. ‘They’ had the foot on our throat and did not hesitate to bear down with all their available weight, but for the bunnet we were history. It burns the most that failure to invest 5-6m now may well cost us so much, 2m for the SPL title, 10-12m for the automatic group stage CL, the loose change involved in the CIS & Scottish Cups, and that’s without taking into account the enormous feel good factor and knock on effects amongst the support of doing 4iar. We now have everything to lose on the pitch, and if we do lose, there will be total anarchy off the pitch. ‘They’ now have everything to win on the pitch, and if ‘they’ do win, there will be a ‘watp supremacy’ confirming attitude amongst the orcs the likes of which hasn’t been seen since ‘they’ bought 9iar. The board has taken a gamble with the team and the situation and thus a gamble with revenue streams that is at best over confident and at worst contemptuously arrogant, either way they’ve handed the orcs the momentum, increased pressure on a team weakened in the transfer window, boosted the morale of ‘their’ repulsive support, divided our support and potentially seriously damaged the chances of creating another piece of history. Actually the list goes on and on, suffice to say that if we draw or lose against the huns on the 15th, I truly believe the effect will be devastating for our club. I will never stop believing but I will never forgive DD, JR & Pl for pulling the rug out from under us, especially if it ends up haunting us for years to come, and I suspect that feeling is shared by a great deal of my fellow supporters.

I think people will be disappointed in the team if we were not to be successful this season, but it seems like more people would lay the blame on Strachan’s feet and call for his job. If he were to be fired, I have a feeling a lot of people would be coming back again.
