Injuries mark tough win up North
By: Matt | October 19th, 2008
Celtic stayed true to recent history by squeaking out a 2-1 victory over Inverness Caley Thistle. Before the game got underway, it was made known that super striker Georgios Samaras would not be in the line up due to injury. The Greek would not be the only Celt facing injury concerns by the end of the day. Both Gary Caldwell and Marc Crosas had to be subbed out of the game after picking up injuries. It seemed as if Marc Crosas pulled up with a hamstring pull and when leaving the pitch with the trainer, Gordon Strachan looked very concerned. Putting it nicely, Caley seemed to be finishing their tackles and to put it not so nicely, there were some cheap tackles that referee Ian Brines seemed content to not take any names down, though that is hardly surprising considering the source. After an slow first half of seemingly gale force winds effecting play, Scott Brown got the scoring underway in the second half and helped to cap a well played game by Brown, who has seemed to have gone missing before. New Bhoy Glen Loovens also put his name on the scoresheet with what proved to be the game winner on a superb header. Of course, it wouldn’t be a trip to play Caley without some “squeeky bum time” towards the end and this trip was no different with Gary Wood scoring for Caley in the 69th minute, but Celtic was able to hold on. Despite going into Tuesday’s huge Champions League away tie with Manchester United on a winning note, the injuries of the day will be the biggest concern.

As if going to Old Trafford was not hard enough, we have all these injuries!

News just in. I have been called into the squad. My exploits at 5 a sides on a Tuesday night have been rewarded. I hope to improve my goalscoring record of 1 goal in 15 weeks at Old Trafford.

Hopefully we can return the favor to Ian Black when he comes to Glasgow. Cheap bastard.

@John-Black certainly seemed to be leading the scum tackle charge on Saturday. You would think after having his own injury stint, he would be more sympathetic about players missing time but then again he could just want others to go through what he had to. Either way, I expect whoever is healthy enough to play for Celtic when we play Caley next to know exactly where Black is.
