International Week Can Suck One
By: Matt | September 7th, 2009
Not only is international week boring to a guy like me, it leaves me terrified that important pieces to the Celtic machine will come back bruised and battered. That fear is becoming a reality it seems, as Aiden McGeady and Artur Boruc have been sent home from their various international duties due to injury. Rumors are that McGeady injured his thigh during training for the Republic of Ireland, while Boruc picked up a knock in Poland’s 1-1 draw with Northern Ireland. Scott Brown was not sent home from Scotland’s camp (for neither injury or drinking and then giving cameras the v-sign….haw haw, it’s still funny to laugh at Ferguson and McGregor), but there are concerns about the midfielder’s ankle after being subbed out of Scotland’s 2-0 victory over Macedonia on the weekend. Brown is expected to play in Scotland’s midweek slaughter match against the Netherlands. Finally, one injury can’t be put at the feet of international football and that is to Marc Antoine Fortune. Fortune injured his knee against Arsenal, causing him to miss last weekend’s match against Hibs. A scan on the knee showed the injury was worse than originally thought and Fortune might miss up to a month, including the first match against Rangers.
McGeady is scheduled to miss the next match against Dundee United anyways due to the *ahem* “red card”, so hopefully he’ll have time to rest up for the first trip to Ibrox. Brown seems to be healthy enough for Scotland, so I’d assume he’d be good to go against Rangers. If Fortune does miss the match, I would not mind seeing a “4-5-1″, only a Tony Mowbray styled 4-5-1 with Scott McDonald the “lone striker” but Brown behind him pushing up, McGeady and Maloney on the wings and Landry N’Guemo and either Marc Crosas, Barry Robson, or Zeng Zhi in the middle. What would you like to see?

Lilrashio-If I had to choose one, it’d be the US. I check the results of the Republic of Ireland’s scores, but I’m not too worried if they lose. Celtic is first and last for me, all I root for during international weeks is that Celtic players stay healthy, which didn’t work out it seems

I’d also like to add I’m not a huge Scotland fan for the combination of reasons, but that’s another story for another time.
