Match Day Review - How do you spell ‘invincible’?
By: Cham | February 25th, 2007
Scottish FA Cup Quarterfinal Match
Inverness - 1 (Bayne, 18)
Celtic - 2 (Pressley, 89; Miller, 91)
Celtic continue to baffle even their own faithful. As one fan who called into the post-match radio show, “it’s games like this would teach the Parkhead fans not to leave before the final whistle.”
That’s really all you can say about this. It’s results like this that continue to show Celtic as the true over-lords of the Scottish game; even in a game (or games, as of late) like this, can the Bhoys in Hoops not play to their full potential, perhaps not even great enough to take points or wins, and yet they fulfill their league-leader and cup-contending dominance. But give the lads credit. Celtic is still realing from their nil-nil defense of Parkhead against the Italian/Brasilian onslaught of Milan last Tuesday.
With the Scottish League itself becoming a mere formality, The Scottish Cup, however, is an enigma, as Gordon Strachan, while convinced the competition has lost some of its sheen, the silverware would certainly look nice in the Paradise trophy case.
And so with that appeal, Kenny Miller, who got another top-spot start, netted in injury time to place Celtic in the Scottish Cup semifinal. This goal coming only minutes after a header on goal from former Heartsman, now Celtic top defender Steven Elvis Pressley.
