Match Day Review - No points for you, Hibby
By: Cham | February 10th, 2007
Celtic - 1 (Beattle, 54)
Hibernian - 0
Celtic remains nothing short of purely dominant in Scottish League play. Hibernian, who sit fifth behind rival Hearts, played well enough to take home a draw point or, at times, even the win, but Celtic remain vigilant to keep their invincible lead of Rangers and the rest of Scotland’s premier clubs.
Gordon Strachan went with a 4-4-2 formation, starting Craig Beattie, Kenny Miller up top today. Miller had an early opportunity to score on a fabulous through ball from new mid-fielder Paul Hartly. This was Hartley’s first home start, since becoming a Bhoy at the end of the January transfer window. Miller had another opportunity to head off a brilliant Nakamura cross, but sadly no goals for the Scottish international.
Both sides played hard for the first half, but the Celtic had to wait until the second to see a goal. A long ball from top defender Stephen McManus on the backline found Aiden McGeady with loads of working space. It would be McGeady’s cross to assist the Beattie in his second Celtic goal of the year.
Celtic number one Artur Boruc did his part to to keep his sheet clean, including two class fingertip saves to fend off attempts from Hibernian Frenchman Guillaume Beuzelin and Scotland’s Sean Lynch.
Celtic currently sit 22 points clear of hated Rangers. Rangers will face sixth place Kilmarnock tomorrow.
