McManus injury might keep him out the rest of the season
By: Matt | May 5th, 2009
Stephen McManus has traveled to London this week to see a specialist on a knee problem that has plagued the Celtic captain the last couple of weeks. This problem might bring an premature end to McManus’ season, which might be a good thing or a bad thing depending on who you ask in the Celtic support. McManus, who has struggled with ankle and knee problems in recent weeks, lasted only 50 minutes of Saturday’s win at Aberdeen. If the medical diagnosis is that surgery is required, the Celtic Captain will be forced to sit out the closing weeks of the season. If McManus misses out then Gary Caldwell will partner Glenn Loovens in the Celtic back line. Strachan’s will be forced to use this paring most likely due to Darren O’Dea also facing injury problems. The League Cup Final hero is likely to miss the rematch against Rangers this weekend. Celtic might be buoyed by the return of Barry Robson for their match this weekend. The midfielder has returned to training this week. Robson will probably not get the start, but could be fit enough to play a role as a substitute. Robson played a crucial role in the 1-0 victory at Ibrox in December.

I noticed that Gordon Strachan is down playing the upcoming rangers match as not being the deciding factor in who wins the league. I feel it will be the clincher. Comments?

Matt D-Strachan is probably doing this because Celtic has had seven point leads on Rangers twice this season, but has seen those leads disappear, including to the now 1 point lead. I think you are right when you say that this will probably be the clincher in the league if a team wins, but with both teams not wanting to blow the league, a draw is a distinct possibility. I hope this is just coach talk from Strachan and not an admission that Celtic will be playing a very cautious game on Saturday.

Matt – I agree a draw is a definite possibility and ultimately a favorable result for Celtic. I too hope Celtic will continue to play with an aggressive mindset. Now that i look closer at Rangers remaining games they could still end up losing to a pretty strong Aberdeen side even though it is at Ibrox. I am excited to see the out come and was wondering if you knew of where i could watch the game. Are there any sites that will stream the game live?

Matt-Hopefully the Hibs side that was able to beat their rivals Hearts can keep some momentum against Rangers as well. Aberdeen always play Rangers tough as they might hate Rangers as much as Celtic.
Is the email that you provided in the comments a legit email? The Offside has been having some problems with teams getting angry about copyright issues. I can email you a link that should have the games. Are you a Celtic fan or just a curious neutral?

Matt-My email is legit. I have been a Celtic fan for about five years now and i am only able to keep up with scores and articles online. It is a special treat when they actually show a game or two on ESPN. It is nice to correspond with other fans and i would really appreciate it if you email me a link where i can watch the games.

Fair enough Matt, you have an email. I’d also suggest checking out the website http://deadraibead.com/index.php. It is a site dedicated to North American Celtic fans, and they usually can provide a link to the game online. Check it out, as there is some good discussion about Celtic there.
