McStay leaves Celtic *wink, wink* *nudge, nudge*
By: Matt | July 1st, 2009
Celtic have announced that reserve team coach Willie McStay has left the club to take up the role as manager of Ujpest FC in Budapest, Hungary. How could such a loyal servant to the club just up and leave like that? Well, because Celtic wanted him to. You see, Ujpest FC is Celtic’s new feeder club and Celtic wanted McStay and Neil Lennon to head to Hungary to run things over there. The only problem was that UEFA didn’t like McStay still being on the Celtic payroll and possibly meeting Ujpest in the new Europa League, which could happen. So McStay had to “officially” leave Celtic and join Ujpest, which he has done. The former Celtic player has enjoyed success with the Celtic reserve sides, winning an eighth successive league title this year. He will now move to Hungary to try and find some talent in Hungary for Celtic. McStay said of the move, “This is a great move for me at this stage of my career. I’m looking forward to the challenge.” With Tony Mowbray’s arrival, Celtic’s reserve and youth set-up was expected to undergo a shake-up and McStay’s departure will allow the new manager to put his own coach in the reserves.

Lenny going too? I thought he was going to be on the coaches bench with Venus and Grant.

Not sure about Lenny, Rut. He was supposed to go to Ujpest with McStay, but when UEFA put the kibash on the original deal, I think they decided to keep him here.
