Meet the Celts–Keepers & Today’s Celtic News
By: JT | June 7th, 2007
Artur Boruc (Poland)—Rightly regarded as one of the top keepers in Europe, I covered Boruc in yesterday’s post. From the looks of it, he’ll be back between the sticks at Celtic Park for 2007/08 and beyond.
Mark Brown (Scotland)—Former Rangers, Motherwell, and Caley Thistle keeper, he’s a solid backup to Boruc. I’m sure if he sits another year behind Boruc, he’ll be looking for opportunities elsewhere.
David Marshall (Scotland)—As a 19 year old, Marshall waltzed into Celtic lore by replacing the suspended Rab Douglas for the away leg of the Bhoys’ tie with Barcelona during their run to the UEFA Cup Final in 2004. His saves led Celtic to a 1-0 aggregate triumph. Marshall’s found his path to first team action blocked by Boruc, and spent 2007 on loan at Norwich. He only appeared twice before being injured, and spent the remainder of the loan period on the sidelines. Word is that he’s looking to make the move permanent, and at 22, I can understand why.
Michael McGovern (Northern Ireland)—Young, fearless keeper who is one for the future. Made his first-team debut during Henrik Larsson’s testimonial match.
