Onions!

I pitty the fool that meets John Mensah! The last week has not been a banner one for the Bhoys in green and white and their followers. A disappointing draw with Dundee United, the Motherwell game cancelled and a chance to honor a Celtic and Motherwell great in Phil O’Donnell, and the Bhoys crashing out of the Scottish Cup. Personally, I took a wee break from football after the Aberdeen game, becoming a couch potato while watching inhuman amounts of NCAA Basketball. But listening to Billy Packard will drive people to insanity and me back to football. Can you imagine Gus Johnson calling football though? “Jarosik with the ball…FOUL! FREE KICK FOR CELTIC WITH ABOUT TEN MINUTES TO GO!” Nakamura is over the ball, steps back, shoots….IT’S IN! NAKAMURA HAS DONE IT! LOUD NOISES!” However, there have been some revelations in the Football world that have brought me back to life.

First, after slagging Celtic fans off for losing to the SPL team Aberdeen, Rangers drew with lower division Patrick Thistle and will play a replay to see if they can advance in the Scottish Cup. Thistle scored a second half go ahead goal in the 66th minute, but Rangers netted an equalizer just two minute later and that is how the game ended. It is Patrick, and even though it is at their home ground, Rangers are surely the favorite to move on, but the ever continuing match backlog could take a toll on Der Hun. It could lead to tired legs and hopefully dropped points.

Secondly, the postponed Rangers match at home, originally scheduled for January 23rd is now going to be played on Wednesday, April 18th at 7:45 PM….another Rangers game, another 7 AM wake up for Tims in the States…..wait, do my eyes read correctly? PM!!!!!! HOLY JUMPIN! You mean I don’t have to wake up at the butt crack of dawn to see a Celtic Rangers match! WOOOO HOOOOOOOO! While this is good news for North American tims, I’m sure the Glasgow Police are not too thrilled, with the chance for idiots on both sides to get liquored up and kill each other. But screw ‘em, kill ‘em all and I can have a regular sleep pattern!

Finally, more transfer rumors are about. A French newspaper is reporting (Special thanks to Mo from the Dead Raibead forum for the tip) that Celtic are interested in 25 year old defender John Mensah, the Ghana internationalist, who currently plays for Rennes in the French league 1. Look at that picture, those guns, Kris Boyd weeps quietly thinking about going against that. Apparently, he is considered one of the best African defenders and his nickname is the Rock of Gibraltar. Gary Caldwell’s nickname should be the Old Man of the Mountain of New Hampshire (Backstory: The Old Man of the Mountain was the side of a mountain in New Hampshire that looked like an old man’s profile. They loved this thing in New Hampshire, so much that their quarter had the Old Man on it. The only problem was that the “old man” crumbled and fell off and now it just looks like a mountain.) All joking aside, it is good to see that Celtic is trying to address the problem in the back and hopefully we are able to land Mensah.

I certainly hope we sign this guy. I’m sick and tired of watching Gary Caldwell make mistake after mistake. Not only that, I think it would do Mick a lot of good to have a good defender at his side. We would start to see a lot better from him.

Matt I hope so too. Caldwell can’t seem to do much these days and that header today back to Boruc nearly killed us.

Attention Bob-Somehow your comment dissapeared, but to answer your question you can watch Celtic at the Blarney Stone in Lakewood, OH. It is where the Cleveland CSC meets and it will cost you $20 if you are not a member. Any questions comment me again.
