Motherwell Preview

By: Matt | May 2nd, 2008

Robo CopRather than talk about “anti-fitbaw”, it is time to focus on Motherwell. After all, why talk about the second time a Scottish team did something? Anyways, tomorrow morning will see the Bhoys travel to Fir Park. The last time the Green and White were there things did not go so well, with Celtic losing 1-0. This is a different team with a different attitude. A team on a roll, if you will. All three strikers have found the net recently, Aiden has been having his usual pin point crosses, and Gary Caldwell has not tripped over his feet in at least 3 games. However, perhaps the most important piece of the puzzle has been in the middle of the park. Unlikely heroes Barry “Robo Cop” Robson and Paul Hartley have seemed to have formed a strong tandem that have been the controlling force that Celtic have been looking for.

The two are grizzled SPL veterans, know how to muck it up, get dirty in the midfield, and control the ball. Are they going to win Celtic any Champions Leagues? Eh, maybe not but who knows and that is not important right now. Teams are going to play physical for the rest of the season and these two can handle it and dish it out themselves.

I guess I will have to mention Thursday’s

  • shoot-out exhibition
  • Huns game due to the fact that the season will now be extended because of it. Here are the dates of the remaining SPL games:

    Remaining SPL fixtures

Saturday 3 May - Aberdeen v Dundee Utd, Inverness CT v Gretna, Motherwell v CELTIC , St Mirren v Kilmarnock

    Sunday 4 May - Hibernian v HUNS

    Monday 5 May - Falkirk v Hearts

    Wednesday 7 May - HUNS v Motherwell.

Thursday 8 May - Gretna v Hearts (moved from 17 May)

Saturday 10 May - HUNS v Dundee United, Falkirk v Inveress, Hearts v Kilmarnock, Motherwell v Aberdeen, St Mirren v Gretna

    Sunday 11 May - CELTIC v Hibernian

Saturday 17 May - Motherwell v HUNS (rearranged game, postponed earlier in the season), Inverness v St Mirren, Kilmarnock v Falkirk

Tuesday 20 May - St Mirren v HUNS (rearranged game, postponed earlier in the season).

Thursday 22 May - Aberdeen v HUNS , Dundee United v CELTIC, Hibernian v Motherwell (all fixtures moved from May 18)

    Keep the Faith!

It’s crazy how much of the title run is going to come down to Motherwell. I’ll be curious to see how they do, against both you and Rangers, without Quinn.
