Naka’s Leaving on a Jet Plane
By: Matt | May 25th, 2009
“I don’t know when he’ll be back again.” Bad John Denver references aside (and hopefully the last one on this blog), Shunsuke Nakamura is on a long flight back to Japan right now, where he will most likely finalize a move back to his first club Yokohama Marinos. Naka’s agent, Robert Takuda, had one more round of talks of Celtic, but most seemed to believe that this was just to confirm Naka’s desire to go back to Japan to play in the Japanese League and raise his children and to not accept the one year player option Naka had. It seems the Shunsuke Nakamura era at Celtic has also come to an end. It is a shame that it had to end on a bad note, but Naka has brought world class to Celtic and has been the catalyst for some of the better memories for Celtic supporters over the last four years. However, as Celtic seem to lose one Japanese international, there is speculation that they might be gaining another.
Wolfsburg midfielder Makoto Hasebe who, like Naka and Koki Mizuno, is represented by Takuda is a close friend of the Celtic pair and was their guest at the Co-operative Insurance Cup final win over Rangers in March. Celtic have shown interest in Hasebe for awhile now, and the midfielder has not gotten a regular match for Wolfsburg. However, since Wolfsburg won the Bundesliga and Champions League football is guaranteed, Hasebe might want to stick it out in Germany.
Celtic have also been linked with Hearts midfielder Bruno Aguiar, who is available on a Bosman. Some sources have said that the deal for the Portugese midfielder is all but done, while other sources have said that Celtic have no interest in the Aguiar, so like with much of the transfer season, you never really know what is going on until someone puts the pen on the paper.

Was so class and I will never get tired of watching the free kicks versus Man United.

Agreed Michael. One of the best Celtic moments in the past couple of years and one of the better moments under Strachan now that his era is over.

Naka might not be gone just yet! Apparently Celtic offered him a 2 million quid offer to stay, which is double what teams in Japan offered.
