Nancy accept £2.5million bid for Fortune
By: Matt | June 22nd, 2009
STV are reporting that Celtic are prepared to spend (wait for it…wait for it…) a fortune (*rimshot*) on French and Nancy striker Marc-Antoine Fortune. Celtic’s £2.5million bid was accepted and now they will meet with Fortune and his agent to try and work out the details of a new deal with Celtic. Fortune was Tony Mowbray’s first transfer target and it seems the new Celtic coach is keen to work with the Frenchman after working with him at West Brom last year, where Fortune was on loan for the last six months of the season. His agent Michael Manuello said: “We will talk with Celtic at the end of the week and see what is on offer financially. We will talk with everyone over the next ten days. Fortune had 5 goals and 2 assists in 17 games with West Brom last season.

Sweet lawdy, no. The guy is average. A goal every 2 or 3 games is his average throughout his career and last year with West Brom. Spend the Fletcher, Fortune, and Middlesborough keeper money on Gudjohnsen who will cost you 5 million euros.

Rutter, apparently other teams are negotiating with this guy as well, so it’s not a guarantee. Some inside sources have said that we’re not after Fletcher as Hibs still wants too much money. We’ll see, I suppose. I just want McCarthy, though Gudjonsen would be nice.

Peter-Well, since we’ve got Skippy, Sammy, and Killen as the third option since JVOH is gone, being better than we have now is not hard. I’d rather Celtic not buy him, but he’d be the 2nd best striker we have now, and since we need 3 for a 4-3-3….

It seems we’ve been outbid for Fortune’s services. Can’t say I’m too distraught.
