Neil Lennon to Stockport
By: Matt | July 6th, 2009
Numerous print sources are confirming that former assistant first team manager and former Celtic midfielder Neil Lennon will be heading down south to try and further his managerial career. Word is that Stockport want Lennon for the their open managerial position and Lennon is very much interested in the position. Lennon has been promised a part in Tony Mowbray’s backroom team as Celtic’s new manager and right-hand men Mark Venus and Peter Grant settle in at the club but Lennon’s exact role have yet to be defined. Lennon has had ambitions to become a manager ever since deciding to quit Celtic as a player two years ago, and it seems that he will have his chance now. Along with Stockport, Paul Ince had offered Lennon the chance to be his assistant manager at MK Dons. All the signs show that Lennon’s chance at being in charge will be too much and he’ll take the Lennon job. If he takes the position with Stockport, lennon will face some challenges, as the League One team is currently in the hands of administrators after some seeming all too common financial problems. New Motherwell manager Jim Gannon was the previous manager of Stockport, but was let go in some controversial circumstances. Lennon will look to secure a deal worth £400,000 a year, but with Stockport’s finances still on a knife edge the former Northern Ireland international will demand assurances of security.
