Ken, it does sound as if Mizuno is going to be ready sooner than most thought, including myself. Some time off the bench will do him good and will get Naka and McGeady some quality rest as the season heads down the home stretch.

Celtic got brilliant victory this time against Aberdeen with the score 5-0. It must be a great step for the coming CL match against Barcelona.

It seems like the new players such as Barry and Samaras start to fit the team, which is much faster than I expected.

About Koki, Strachan thinks he needs a bit more time to get himself fit into the league, however the coach really seems to be amazed by his skill after a game-like practice. So, it is the matter of time that we will watch him playing on the stadium although it is highly possible that he will start from the substitute squad(for McGeady or Nakamura).

Thanks for the info Ken. Keep the good stuff on Koki and Naka coming.

Both Australia and Japan had easy matches this morning, with Skippy playing the full 90 in a 3-0 win over Qatar. I guess Naka wasn't needed as Japan strolled over Thailand 4-1.

McDonald joined the national team?
But why NOT Nakamura?

The new coach for Japan National Team, Takeshi Okada wanted him back to prepare the game for World Cup 2010 elimination against Thai just like McDonald. But he had added one condition. He wanted him back him at least 4 days before the match (tonight). But Nakamura played the Scottish Cup as you guys know.

However, this could be a good move for Celtic considering a long trip between Scotland and Japan and for Nakamura himself as well although it seemed like he wanted to join the National Team so much. But he just came back from injury, therefore taking a risk at this stage was not a good idea.

As a Japanese, of course, I can't deny the feeling I wanted him to play for Japan, however, let's be patient. Sooner or later, Japan will need him, and until that time, all I can hope right now for him is to keep his condition well.

And let's hope Australia and Japan will both win the match tonight to get closer to the entrance to the World Cup 2010!

Hmm well that's good. I just heard it on another message board, but that source didn't have a backing source, so I thought since you are in the know you might have some info. It's good though, as we need Skippy badly!

Here's an article from the FFA's website that looks like its from after today's practice and there's no mention of an injury to McDonald. Check it out...

Matt, I've got nothing so far on McDonald. I'll post info if I find anything reliable. He was substituted pretty early on Saturday. I thought it was just to get Samaras some time, but maybe he tweaked something that the long flight didn't help.

David, thanks for coming by. I agree Celtic appear to have done well this January, but the proof is in the performance, not the predictions. I feel good about what they've done but time will tell.

I rate Riordan highly and wish he would get more time, but I think Robson is better placed to make an impact because he's a leader and he's got great experience.

I haven't written extensively on Gers' January, but I'd be pretty upset to see potentially 11m come in and none of it spent. The league is tight and Gers could make some noise in the UEFA Cup, so I would have expected more arrivals.

Unfortunately, as a Rangers fan, I have to admit that Celtic have strengthened pretty well in the transfer window.
Georgios Samaras will provided a much needed spark in attack, which had been looking particularly insipid. Indeed, if it weren't for Scott McDonald's goals, they would likely have found themselves much further behind in the title race.
I believe Samaras will prove a very shrewd acquisition, particularly if Gordon Strachan gets him for the reported 2.5m agreed at the end of the season.
I'm less sure about Barry Robson. I hope he doesn't simply fade away into the background like Derek Riordan (who needs to get out of Celtic Park as soon as he can). I'm astonished that Donati is still considered a first team player there though. Hartley and Brown would easily be my first choice in central midfield with Robson providing adequate backup/competition.
On the other side of the city, Rangers have lost arguably their best player this season in Alan Hutton (huge loss) and failed to strengthen accordingly. Steve Davis is a good player but we have more than enough cover in midfield and Walter Smith doesn't know who his best striker is - or what formation he wants to play.
I'm worried and excited to see how the next few months pan out. Beats being 20 points behind anyway!

I heard that McDonald picked up an injury training for Australia...hope it's just a rumor or at least is not very serious!
