Of Bhoys and Men - It’s Boxing Day, kids! Boxing Day!
By: Cham | December 27th, 2006Celtic - 2 (O’Dea 78, Nakamura 80)
Dundee United - 2 (Roberston 17, Samuel 58)
Finally back from the woods from a proper holiday, it’s sure is good to come back to good goals and excitement. And really, little can compare to the ridiculousness that was Celtic’s Boxing Day match up with Dundee United.
This match will provide many of this week’s talking points as we draw closer and closer to the January transfer window. The short of the match is that Dundee blew what could have been an exciting win at Celtic Park, snapping Celtic’s 2006 unbeaten streak at home. Instead, Dubliner Darren O’Dea delivered an unmarked header into the bottom of the netting, a goal that resembled the unmarked header Dundee.
O’Dea was a rather Pyhrric substitution, it may be argued, as he came on during the closing minutes of the first half, when Bobo Balde had to be stretchered off due to what is now confirmed as a broken leg. Strachan will most likely be favoring O’Dea to Bobo’s main replacement, especially after today’s magical goal.
The final goal came only two short minutes after O’Dea’s header. Shunsuke Nakamura, still proving that he is one of the many world class players in the Scottish Premier, delivered a classic floater over the Dundee keeper, his sixth goal in SPREM play. This second Celtic goal leveled the match, keeping a point of the spoils in Glasgow.
