Onto the Diddy Cup Semis!
By: Matt | October 29th, 2008
Things might have just gotten interesting in the Diddy CIS Insurance Cup today as Celtic beat Kilmarnock to advance to the semifinals. After an entire post dedicated to how usually this competition is barely on the radar of both Celtic fans and players, this competition is on the verge of being a powder keg. You see, Rangers beat Hamilton for the second time in as many games to also advance to the semifinals. This means that there is a 1/3 chance that Celtic will get Rangers in the draw on November 12th. Apparently when these teams play, it is a big deal. Who knew? Even if the Glasgow giants do not draw each other, that sets up a possible Celtic-Rangers Cup Final. That might be a big deal. Celtic dominated most of the match and built up a 2-0 lead before halftime with goals from Scott McDonald and Shunsuke Nakamura. Killie employed the seemingly new popular strategy to play against Celtic, which is to try and knock them about the pitch all match. This strategy backfired for Killie when Naka banged in a free kick goal just before the half. In the 69th minute, perhaps one of the best names in the SPL, Danny Invincible, put Killie within one, but Aiden McGeady put Celtic back up by two after finishing a shot into the net after a good run of passes, mostly set up by Scott Brown who continues to play well. It seems Celtic is taking this competition as it was a mostly first team squad sent out with the only exceptions being Darren O’Dea and Massimo Donati. The thought of Celtic and Rangers at Hampden is an exciting one eh?

Great strike by Naka. I say we keep him for the rest of his contract.

I don’t understand why I wasn’t given a chance to show my stuff yesterday. I’ve been scoring goals like crazy in the reserves!

Skippy’s scored 31 goals last season and seems to be coming onto form, Ben. Apparently we’re trying to take the CIS Cup seriously, so that means more first teamers. You’re time will come, youngster.

Dear Ben.
Lose a few pounds and you will play.

LOTW-Scott McDonald doesn’t see what the big deal is.
