Post Split Celtic Fixtures announced

The Split…get it?
After Aberdeen netted home a late winner securing them in the top 6 of the SPL, the often confusing Post Split Fixtures were announced.
Saturday, April 19 – Celtic v Aberdeen – kick-off 15.00 (10 AM Eastern)
Sunday, April 27 – Celtic v Rangers – kick-off TBC
Saturday, May 3 – Motherwell v Celtic – kick-off 12.30 (7:30 AM Eastern)
Sunday, May 11 – Celtic v Hibs – kick-off 12.30 (7:30 AM Eastern)
Sunday, May 18 – Dundee Utd v Celtic – kick-off 13.30 (8:30 AM Eastern)

Rangers also have pending matches against St. Mirren and Motherwell with dates TBD still.
The table looks like this:

Rangers 30 75
Celtic 31 68
Motherwell 31 52
Dundee Unt. 33 50
Hibernian 33 50
Aberdeen 33 44
Falkirk 33 42
Hearts 33 42
Inverness CT 33 36
Kilmarnock 33 33
St Mirren 31 32
Gretna 32 6

From an outsiders perspective, there will be a decent race for the 3rd place and the final European spot in the league. Motherwell has a lead coming off of a huge victory over Celtic and some games in hand, but with the split the teams will be playing each other and there are plenty of opportunities to jump up and down those top six. There will not be much drama in the bottom half of the table, with Gretna’s poor play and financial trouble and subsequent 10 pt penalty have them relegated already, so the rest of the teams will be playing for pride, spots on the team next year, and to save embarrassment.

From a Celtic perspective, hopefully Tom Cruise can play some midfield, because it is looking even more and more like Mission Impossible. Despite two remaining fixtures against Rangers, many fans have their doubts about any chance of winning the league. Even if Celtic doubles up Rangers, they will at least be 1 pt behind, if not 4 points behind. With the split, you will be playing the best of the SPL and these teams will be gunning for that last Europe spot. Not only that, I think that this year, the SPL has some of the best talent not in the “Auld Firm” it has seen in awhile. Either way it will be tough going for the Bhoys.
