Pre-Season Camp Starts
By: Matt | July 11th, 2008
This week marked Celtic getting back to business for four-in-a-row with the training camp for the first team. Barry Robson, in an unfamiliar position for him being a defending SPL champion, commented on Gordon Strachan’s mission to make Celtic “the most fit” team in the SPL with long, challenging training. Then again, after spending two months of whatever footballers do in the offseason (mostly being famous, rich, and attracting females who quite fancy the combination of a famous, rich footballer…I’d go through some training for that life), any training would seem difficult. It’s also the first chance for first team coaches to see new signing Paddy McCourt in action. Young Koki Mizuno has also attracted some attention during the first week of camp. Despite being a smaller guy, apparently Mizuno has not be afraid to tackle and get physical. Many have dubbed Mizuno as Naka’s eventual replacement, however one criticism Naka has faced in his time in the Hoops was that he was often not physical and was easily knocked off the ball. If Koki can have the skill set of Naka and not shy away from the physicality of Scottish football, he’d be a great asset.
One player that will be appearing in Celtic’s camp soon should be former Man City loan-man Georgios Samaras. It seems Celtic, Samaras, and Man City have come to an agreement on a permanent move to Celtic for £2 Million, which some might notice is £1 million less than Man City’s original asking price. Last season in 16 appearances, Samaras scored 5 goals. Samaras has tons of potential and this seems like a great bit of business for Celtic especially since they were able to get Sami for a cool million less. That extra million will get Celtic some great sleeping bags and s’more materials for camp (get it? summer camp humor! LOLZ!)

Clearly I do believe Celtic will be prepared for this season as long as they have the essential supplies for a campaign in Europe as well as in the domestic league.
