Samaras and Celtic lay the wood on Livingston
By: Matt | September 23rd, 2008
With SPL, Champions League, and Scottish Cup ties to worry about, more often than not the CIS Cup is oft ignored by Celtic. It is usually a chance for youngsters and reserves to get a run out, and in the recent past the results have shown this, with Celtic making quick exits. However, Gordon Strachan discussed before the season started that Celtic would be competing for as many cups as possible, which led to speculation about whether we’d see more first team names in the CIS Cup or the usual youngsters and reserves. Gordon Strachan ended these speculations with a rousing….well a rousing chorus of “A little bit of each.” Glen Loovens, Massimo Donati, and Paul Caddis were the only real changes from last weekend’s match against Killie. Aiden McGeady finally got the nod back into the starting XI, but no word how long this will last. Whatever the combination, Celtic were able to defeat Division 1 leaders Livingston today in the CIS Cup 4-0.
Georgios Samaras continued his hot streak, netting home another two goals today, with Scott Brown getting off the schnide and Glen Loovens scoring his first goal for Celtic as well. Once again, “Oh Ah” Samaras put forth another man of the match performance, while Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink can continue to confirm his weekend lunch date with Massimo Donati at Cafe Le End of the Bench. Overall, Celtic dominated the match from the get go, including a seemingly rare second half of domination.

Don’t write off the Jan Vennegoor. He will play a major role this season for us. Offside knocking bhoy Scott Brown also had a decent game when he came on.

Aye, I think now that people don’t have Sno, they’ve taken to Brown as the whipping bhoy. He hasn’t played up to his paycheck, but I don’t think he’s been that awful!
