Scott Brown: The New Gazza?
By: JT | September 7th, 2007The man of the moment for the Celts, and probably for Scotland, is midfield dynamo Scott Brown. After dashing displays in the SPL, hard man performances against the likes of established international Egor Titov of Spartak Moskva in the Champions League, and rumors of a £9m transfer to the English game, Brown’s name is everywhere currently and comparisons are being made left and right.
Brown was brought in from Hibernian this passed summer for £4.4, the largest fee ever paid between two Scottish clubs, after a bit of a tussle with Rangers for his signature. English clubs were interested at the time as well, but he knows that CL football is where the real action is, so it came down to the Old Firm in his mind. Celtic were willing to pay the larger fee, and landed the player even though he could have made more money personally in England.
From my point of view, he’s been worth every cent. He seems to be everywhere on the pitch all the time, and he never lets himself slip out of top gear. He does everything well, and has already made himself an automatic choice for every match of consequence at Celtic Park. I’m sure glad he’s wearing the green-and-white and not blue, because at the rate he’s improving, he’s got to be a terror to play against.
Is he the new Gazza? Well, he certainly has all the attributes of the man at his best. But when proclamations like that are made, a lot of baggage comes with it, especially when the man you’re being compared to is Gazza. You can understand why the comparisons are made, and from the piece of footage below, you see the arrogance, skill, and impishness in Brown’s play that made Gazza so famous.

Scott Brown will be the core player in the Celtic midfield for the next couple of seasons. Then some rich club will come and buy him for more than Celtic can shell out.

I’m no Celtic fan by any stretch, but you are one of the better writers on this blog. Thanks.
