Sensing a Pattern In Tony Mowbray’s Transfer Targets
By: Matt | July 10th, 2009
Sky Sports is reporting today that Celtic and new manager Tony Mowbray are interested in Argentinian Winger Juan Carlos Menseguez and are apparently the leader to apprehend his services. Mowbray saw Menseguez up close and person last January on another loan move to West Brom. Menseguez faced an injury for the first part of his time in West Brom, but appeared in seven matches for the Baggies, scoring once. Mowbray was apparently looking to sign on Menseguez to a long term deal at West Brom, but since he moved to Celtic his interest in the winger has reignited. Several Premier League clubs have also shown an interest in Menseguez, but Celtic are leading the chase for the player. Now, when Tony Mowbray was first linked to Celtic, some Baggies supporters made their way to the site to express their displeasure about Mogga leaving their club. Now of course, I couldn’t leave well enough alone, and when Marc Antoine Fortune was first linked to Celtic, I made a little joke about ToMo taking some souvenirs from West Brom with him to Celtic. If those Baggies supporters are still here, I just want to tell them I was joking and have no links to Tony Mowbray and never had a chance to tell him to do this. Maybe Mogga is a reader? If so, GET A FREAKING LEFT BACK and send me one of those class team track suits. Anyway, is Mowbray just going to go after old Baggies and Baggies targets? I suppose we’ll see, but I hope not…unless Sergios Ramos was a West Brom target, in which case, proceed.

We’ll see. Another winger we’re linked too. First Commons now this guy. Apparently ToMo doesn’t like the mids he has now. Or with this 4-3-3, ToMo is just on a mid/forward spending spree to he has enough players to play this formation.
Unfortunately, the defense does not look like a priority.Posted from

ToMo said we weren’t after Commons though, and judging by our lack of effort to get Fletcher when we said we weren’t, I believe it.

Still another winger we are linked to.

Well, if I say we’re linked to Kirk Broadfoot, it doesn’t mean we’re actually going to buy clubfoot.

Did Koki Mizuno and Paddy McCourt put their respective hands on somebody’s daughter?

McCourt was hurt a lot last year, so he’s still getting back into shape, or Mowbray doesn’t rate either of them. Neither is particularly big for the Scottish game. There’s also the possibility that he’s looking to sell McGeady. As they say, I guess we’ll wait and see…

Matt,
It frustrates me when players come in, get no run in the side, and their quality is determined on the training ground.
Mizuno and McCourt shown well last year in sporadic appearances. And, if we have NO left-back, but perhaps have winger depth, I should think the money be spent on the need.
As well, did anybody read about Celtic chasin’ Coventry LB Danny Fox? Good player, but not sure about his attitude. I’m nae’s mum, but I did watch Coventry on a three occassions last season – 2 x FA Cup, 1 x CocaColaship.
He gets forward very well but can leave his CD’s out. Also chirps alot for a “Spice Boy”. I could just see’m turning out for his unveiling with Macca’s white suit on.

Ryan-I 100% agree that LB should be the priority. However, when it comes to finding another winger, I get frustrated to when young guys don’t get a chance, but ToMo didn’t make those moves. He didn’t buy those players. I’d like to give Koki a shot, I’ve never rated McCourt to highly but he deserves a shot as well, but between those two and Commons, I’d prefer Commons (though Mogga said we weren’t after him, so it might not matter). We’re fighting Bolton for Castillo and I’ve also heard this Fox’s name connected with us as well.
I know it’s frustraiting not getting a LB, but we shouldn’t let Ginger Baws crimes effect our opinions of Mowbray. We saw Strachan ignore this obvious claim, but let’s give Mogga the transfer season. If he doesn’t sign one by then, then we can give it to him. Lord knows we Celtic fans can give it!
