Sno to Ajax; Maloney for a mil?
By: Matt | August 21st, 2008
Young Dutch midfielder Evander Sno will be taking his reggae stylings back to the Netherlands, signing a deal today with Dutch team Ajax. The financial terms have not been released but the Ajax website has pictures of Sno signing and with a Ajax top. Sno was often the butt of Celtic fan criticism, but the young Dutchman was just that, young, and full of promise. It is disappointing to see Celtic do a good bit of developing with Sno only to have him go back to the Netherlands, but with an already crowded midfield it is no surprise that Sno has decided to leave. Perhaps replacing Sno might be this year’s Robbie Keane (though less talented) rumor, Shuan Maloney. Maloney has been rumored to sign a number of times this year, but still hasn’t. This batch of rumors has Maloney signing for a million quid, which to be fair, would be a decent deal. No confirmation of any deal has been made though.
*UPDATE* It appears the Guardian is reporting that the Maloney deal is done. Celtic will send a million to Villa and Maloney will make £20,000 a week. The grass not so much greener on the other side, eh Shauney? Apparently Rangers were after Maloney as well… Quote from the Guardian:
“Shaun Maloney will be paraded as a Celtic player tomorrow after agreeing terms on his return to Parkhead on a four-year deal from Aston Villa. The Scotland international, who will cost £1m and earn £20,000 a week, moved to the Midlands from Celtic in January 2007 but failed to settle and has harboured aspirations of a return to Glasgow for a number of months. Rangers had earlier expressed an interest in Maloney, but he made it clear he was unwilling to join Walter Smith’s side while Sunderland were also unable to coax Maloney to remain in England.”

I think we’ll regret selling Evander.

@OB-Sadly, I think Loovens is all the help we will be getting. And since he probably won’t start, it looks like you’re looking at the starting backline of the 08-09 season.
