Tamas, Celtic crossing “t’s” and dotting “i’s”
By: Matt | July 14th, 2008
Romanian international and Auxerre defender Gabriel Tamas is said to be in Celtic Park today working out the final details of a move to Celtic, confirmed by Auxerre coach Jean Fernadez. Instead of working at Auxerre’s pre-season camp, the 24 year old Tamas flew to Scotland to work out a deal and, according to some sources will be signing officially in the next 24 hours. Tamas is under contract with Auxerre for another 3 years, but apparently around £4 million was enough to convince them to sell the Romanian international. Tamas has been capped by the Romanian team in the recent Euro tournament, as well as the U21 team in the past adding a total of 35 total appearances. Last season Tamas appeared 27 times for Auxerre and was also a part of Spartak Moscow. Tamas would most likely be Stephen McManus’ central defence partner.
