Tamas Deal Falls Through
By: Matt | July 24th, 2008It seems the plug has been pulled finally on talks with Romanian defender Gabriel Tamas. Many sources were willing to call the deal all but done, save for some t’s to cross and i’s to dot, but apparently they seemed to be complicated t’s and i’s. Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said that there were to many interferences, as well as wage demands that were too high that killed the deal. Apparently Tamas had a variety of people trying to claim that they represented his interests as his agent and Lawwell finally said enough is enough. Auxerre will have to do for Tamas for now until he finds a team willing to compensate all of his agents. Celtic will now “pursue other options”, but there does not seem like many options available really, so it looks like the squad will be as is. Hopefully we will see the Gary Caldwell and Stephen McManus of the May month rather than of December and March. If this is the case, then the backline will be all right.

Sorry to see Tamas go, but if he is going to ask for, as I had seen, over twice what they had originally agreed upon, good riddance. No need to have any premadonnas.
Finding new homes for Naylor, Riordan, and Balde would be nice before the summer is over as they seem out of favor. I think someone like Razvan Rat from the Romanian National side or that young left fullback from Roma would be a nice addition to close out the signings. Worst case one of the younglings will get a chance to get some knocks in the SPL and we pick up a replacement in January for the home stretch.

@Speedywk-I think we’ve parted with Bobo, but we’re letting him play the preseason to help him find another home. I’m convinced Strachan will never sell Riordan just to forever punish him for shagging his daughter! And we can only pray for Naylor’s swift departure! But I agree that there is no need to just buy anyone when there is an opportunity to buy in January.
