The Offside Challenge: DonorsChoose.org-What Would Brother Walfrid do?
By: Matt | October 14th, 2008
I am not sure how many of you readers and bypassing the homepage here at The Offside.com, but if you do then you missed a great opportunity to help underprivileged kids discover the same love and passion for football that we all have. Daryl and the rest of the crew on the front page explain the program here, but basically what they have done is teamed up with an organization called donorschoose.org. This organization lets teachers in underprivileged request school supplies that they need and individuals can make donations to the various proposals as they see fit. Here at The Offside, it seems appropriate that we look at various soccer related proposals. Many of these places do not have the funds to give their students balls at recess to play with, others want to give their kids a chance to play soccer after school but do not have fields, goals, or balls to start up a program. If we can give these kids a chance at football, perhaps it can keep them off the street and have them develop a love for the beautiful game that we all share.
As Celtic supporters, I do not think I need to remind you of just why our beloved club was founded. However, for those who do not know, a Irish Marist Monk named Brother Walfrid founded The Celtic Football Club to help raise money to feed the poor Irish immigrants of East Glasgow. Charity and Celtic go hand in hand, and with this vary worthy charity I ask for your help. Feel free to give whatever you feel comfortable with, as I know many of my readers are around my age in college where money is not in an abundance. However, any sort of help is greatly appreciated I’m sure. Once again, you can go here and help.
