The Return of the King
By: Matt | April 30th, 2008
News broke today of Henrik Larsson, King of Kings, will be returning to Celtic Park to wear the Hoops one last time. Henrik will be joining other members of the famous 1998 Celtic side that “stopped the 10″ to honor the late Phil O’Donnell for a tribute match May 25 against Motherwell at Celtic Park. Along with Larsson, the Hoops side will feature Jackie McNamara (the recently “retired” Jackie Mac for coaching position?), Paul Lambert, Tom Boyd, Morten Wieghorst, Alan Stubbs, Craig Burley and Stephane Mahe for the game. The Motherwell side will feature players from the ‘well’s 1991 Scottish Cup winning side. Former Celtic Boss Wim Jansen will be in the dugout for the Hoops as well. Proceeds for the game will go towards the O’Donnell Family Trust fund and other charities. A web site to honor Phil’s memory and to purchase tickets for the game has been created and can be found here: http://www.philodonnelltribute.com/.
Obviously this is a great cause and the profile for the event will be raised with Larsson playing in the match. I am a little afraid that some Hoops supporters will see this as the return of the King rather than a tribute to Phil O’Donnell but I’m sure Phil will be properly honored. It will be a great event for Celtic and Motherwell supporters!

I usually avoid these games like the plague. But the chance to see Henke, Stubbs and all in the Hoops again might force me to go. Then again….
I agree the PR for it has been all aboot Henke. That shouldnae be the case.
It’s aboot a guy that has left a young family behind after a tragic accident.
I may just donate to the fund……
I paid my tribute to Phil the first game after his death. I’m not really comfortable wie benefit games.
But it’s a great cause and I hope they get a bumper crowd.
RIP Phil

Ps….is that a photo of past and next Celtic manager……

Hehehehe…I think that WGS has done enough to save his job for next season in the two wins against the Huns, but who knows what the future holds…:-D

Personally I think that it’s great that Larsson is playing, it’s about Phil O’Donnell and the best way to pay tribute to him is by having the best and most important players turn up. I mean what would it say if they all said no and you ended up with Jock McNobody playing.
