Well That Sucked.
By: Matt | August 31st, 2008Damn. That was awful. Rather than rehash play by play of the shitty-ness that was this morning, I figured I’d put up some talking points/thoughts from the game.
-Mark Wilson is not good enough. Lee Naylor is not good enough. WE DESPERATELY NEED A LEFT BACK! Less than 24 hours until the transfer window closes, do I expect any attempt at a soltuion? Well, I am not holding my breath…
-Credit to the other side on the field. They saw last season that we figured out their sit back and wait tactics and made the adjustments. It is now on Gordon Strachan to adjust again.
-No credit to the always classy Rangers away support. First a banner mocking Tommy Burns and Phil O’Donnel and then belting out “The Famine is Over” for 90 minutes. Did you forget your “Nakamura ate my Dog” banner? You stay classy, Rangers.
-I have seen people upset at Stephen McManus for not getting more upset when Cousin elbowed him and got his second yellow. Why? As a Captain, McManus kept his head and did not try and even things up when we went a man up and I think he deserves credit for this.
-On the other hand, dumb ass of the week goes to Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. Why, why, why would you give any referee in an Old Firm Match the slightest excuse to show you the door? It probably didn’t deserve a straight red, but he deserves a stupidity red card. As they say in hockey and American Football, “It’s always the second guy that the referee sees.”
-One of the few positives today was the play of Shunsuke Nakamura. For the second week in a row, the Mhan from Japan looked like the “Old Naka” creating and playing some dandy balls.
-Mendes’ strike was a fucking bullet.
-Finally, as disheartening as today was, people need to remember it is fucking August. We play Rangers 3 more times. Things need fixed, but don’t forget 51 goals from last year were sitting on the bench or having their head firmly up their own ass and getting sent off. The team better get focused for an always tough trip to Fir Park next week to face a Motherwell team pissed off at their slow performance. Last season shows that the season is a long and winding road. Rangers looked good today, but they looked as bad as us in Aberdeen last week. Like always, it will be a battle for the league. KEEP THE FAITH!

So much for the idea that we were going to leave Rangers in the dust following their CL debacle. The Celtic brass clearly squandered the opportunity to stregthen the squad and give them that critical edge over Rangers. Shit.

Yeah, but I don’t think all is lost yet Chris. We just had a bad game, like Rangers did against Aberdeen. We can’t really have anymore, but we can get back into it hopefully.

Barbara…it is a pretty simple reason why this match is shown on Sentanta…money, dinero, pounds, quid, whatever you want to call it. Sentanta ponied up the biggest amount of money to the SPL so they get first pick of games and obviously they are going to pick a Celtic-Rangers match, even if Joe or Jane Public can’t afford it. However, I may have an alternative if the email you provided is your real email. Let me know if it is and I will perhaps send you a way to watch on your computer…
