Unexpected Stars Shine in First Friendly *Now With Highlights!*
By: Matt | July 12th, 2009
Two goals by Chris Killen and another by Koki Mizuno, along with a good performance by Paddy McCourt and *gasp* Lee Naylor led Celtic to a 3-0 victory in their first friendly of the season against the A-League’s Brisbane Roar. Questions about Artur Boruc’s fitness and whether or not he’d remain with Celtic were asked in the lead up to the match, but his performance down under was a blinder, making some great saves in his 45 minutes of the match. Boruc made brilliant one-handed stops to deny Robbie Kruse and Sergio van Dijk in the opening stages of the match, allowing Celtic to keep a clean sheet before Celtic got onto the board. In the second half, Lukasz Zaluska came in and had less to do than Boruc, but was also able to keep the clean sheet. Chris Killen put Celtic ahead after 39 minutes, heading home a Lee Naylor cross, and then fired home from a Shaun Maloney pass three minutes later. Mizuno headed the third from an Andreas Hinkel cross after the break. It was a good start for Celtic, with unexpected leaders showing the way.

Mowbray’s come out, even before the match, saying how Killen will have every chance to be in the first team. I think we’ll see a lot of him in the preseason.

Think we will see a lot of players in pre-season who oor manager is trying to get a heads up on. Shop window for a few.
