Celtic eye Heralded Youngster McCarthy

By: Matt | May 14th, 2009

In perhaps the most obvious news ever, Celtic have made an offer for the talented Irish young midfielder James McCarthy from Hamilton. The SPL Young Player of the Year’s Agent has confirmed that Celtic have made an offer and the two clubs have entered negotiations about a summer transfer move. It is expected that if Celtic are able to secure McCarthy’s services for next year that he would be the highest paid teenager in Scottish Football history. A number of English clubs, including Everton, Newcastle, Tottenham, Middlesbrough, Wigan, Blackburn, Sunderland, Wolves and Ipswich, have all been linked with McCarthy as well. However, according to McCarthy’s agent, Celtic would be the preferred destination for McCarthy. Agent Willie McKay has said of this, “”It is a dream for a kid from Glasgow to play for Celtic or Rangers and, if Celtic can come close to the offers made by other clubs, they must be favourites as he would love to play for the club. His family will have a big say in where he eventually goes. Celtic know how much Premiership clubs are offering and I’m sure they would be prepared to pay what would be a lot of money for a teenager.” It seems that a deal will be unlikely to occur until Hamilton secure their place in the SPL for next season, as the club is currently four points above the relegation zone with two matches to play. However, if Celtic are able to give the Accies the money that they are looking for, then it seems there should be nothing keeping McCarthy from being a Bhoy next year.

Seems like a really good player but for his age he’s unlikely to get a first team game at Celtic park. Reckon he should stay put for a season or two..

    Hail! Hail!
    Halftime report

As much as I personally like Hartley, he needs to come off.

    Allow me…
    1. As many good tackles as Hartley makes, they are not in adventageous positions for us.

    2. Hartley’s inclusion nueters Brown. Brown has to come back too far, which makes his offense impact is muted – because Hartley can’t play the full length of the pitch.

    3. Because Brown has to come farther back, it invites Nakamura inside, inside, inside – which hurts Hinkle going forward, Aiden cutting in, Samaras distribution, etc.

I don’t know if Crosas is injured, but something in central midfield needs to be done.

    Hail! Hail!

    Not even gutted.

Don’t really care anymore. We don’t do the little things.
    Too much static passing.

Poor touches by McDonald. naylor is a disgrace.

For all of Hartley’s industry, nothing comes of it.

McGeady is not a big-match player.

Following the first two corners, Naka’s deliveries were dangerous, but overall he was rather pedestrian.

Maloney didn’t get the ball enough.

    VoH was not a factor.

Don’t deserve the league. Won’t watch next week. Not interested until WGS is gone along with the following:
    1. Naylor: Why can’t Djoumbe-Djoumbe play? We bought him.
    2. Hartley: Should be Crosas until his legs fall off.
    3. Robson: Waste of money…hurt and off the pace
    4. Donatti: Wasted purchase…got in the doghouse
    5. Flood: Wasted purchase…Why?
    4. M. Brown: Wasted space…4 goals in only match
    5. VoH: SPL knows the book on him
    6. Samaras: When not finishing, contributes nothing
    7. Nakamura: Been my favorite player…but time to go
    8. Boruc: Looked bored too often…time to cash in
    9. McGeady: The Stewart Downing of the SPL…cash in now

Next season starting eleven should be:
    GK – Zaluskas

    RB – Hinkle
    CB – Caldwell, Cpt.
    CB – Loovens
    LB – Djoumbe-Djoumbe

    RW – Maloney
    AM – S. Brown
    HM – M. Crosas
    LW – Mizuno, McCourt

    ST – McDonald
    ST – ?

    Bench:
    FB – Wilson, Caddis
    CB – McManus, O’Dea, Kennedy
    WH – Ferry
    ST – Sheridan

    Needs:
    GK – Paddy Kenny.
Should Sheff Utd lose to Burnley, we could aquire the Irishman and have compete with Zaluskas. It would be a fantastic battle. Kenny has tone of experience at every level. He would be cheaper than Boruc and he would not expect the No. 1 shirt.

FB – preferably left footed. We aquired Djoumbe to play, but we need cover. Not sure who’s available. However, with all the money flushed on spent on Donatti, Robson, Flood, Gravesen, Riordan, Killen, etc, etc, etc, I can’t believe there isn’t a very good to great left-back in Holland, Germany, Portugal, or England that wants European football.

    MF – Aron Gunnerson.
Watched Coventry on four occasions this year. Clearly too good for the Championship, but not quite ready for primetime. Great pace. Strong on the ball. NOT AFFRAID TO SHOOT! Can be a little out of control (Scotty?). Has international experience.
Would be a fantastic shot of adrenaline to cure our mundane “paint drying” build-ups. Would pressure all positions, both wide and in the center. Would take the bulk of our transfer kitty. I feel it would be worth it.

ST – Need two. One needs to be Top, top Shelf. It may be in opur best interests to accept a loanee of high quality, e.g. Saviola from Real Madrid. We cannot afford David Villa. Most European scoring talent is heading to the Spain or England. But for every Huntelaar that lands in Madrid or Kun Ageuro that ends in Atletico, somebody of obvious talent is sitting. This may be the only way we can get the likes of Cadete, Di Canio or Van Hjoodonk again.

Celtic needs to continue with their financial policy, but I think they need to look at what we are in the new millenium. Celtic could be the place that La Liga, Serie A or EPL superstars go to cut their teeth. We should be the stepping stone for players like Gunnerson to hone their skills on the international stage, as well as week in and week out. The league, although not of the hgihest quality, does feature the most duanting derby on the planet. We are in Europe “every year”. We do move merchandise and we do get invited overseas. We have the trainig academy and the youth set-up to cater to the likes of Bayern, Ajaz, PSV, Inter, Milan, Real, Barca, United, Liverpool.

    Until the summer

    Ryan
