Cervi Officially A Bhoy
By: Matt | May 20th, 2009
After a long lengthy process of trying to get his Italian citizenship, Dominic Cervi finally got said citizenship and will complete the deal with Celtic. Cervi has been capped with the US U23 team and was drafted in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft by the Chicago Fire out of Tulsa University. However, a lovely quirk in the MLS rules says that a team can offer a draft pick the league minimum (aka not a lot of money) if they are not a Generation Adidas player, which was the case with Cervi. Cervi realized he had more talent than that and could do more than earning peanuts backing up Jon Busch at Toyota Park. He respectfully declined signing with the Fire and began trials with European clubs. After a successful trial at Celtic in September, both Cervi and the Bhoys were interested in Dominic suiting up for Celtic, but UK work permit laws require football players to have a certain amount of caps with their national team, which Cervi did not have. Cervi was able to get his Italian Passport though, which allowed him to sign with Celtic finally. There is some question about whether or not Artur Boruc will remain at Celtic or be sold this summer, but even if Celtic’s current #1 leaves, Cervi will still have competition from pre-contract signing Lukasz Zaluska.

2 year project this one. Not heard decent things about his closed doors showings at all.

He’s a younger guy Kevin. He’s only a year out of college, so I didn’t expect him to start right away. Probably the #2 behind Zaluska, with Mark Brown sold (please please please please please).
