Coaching Carousel: Day 3
By: Matt | May 27th, 2009
Day Three of the Coaching Carousel at Celtic has started with the headline of Celtic v. Burnley. More trusted fish wrap than the usual fish wrap, The Guardian (and besides, they <3 The Offside, so they’re all right in my book), is reporting that Celtic are lining up recently promoted Burnley’s coach Owen Coyle for the open coaching position. Apparently Peter Lawwell has delayed his trip to Rome to view the Champions League final to start negotiations with Burnley and try and secure Coyle for the job. Coyle is scheduled to go on a family holiday on Saturday, so Lawwell and co. would hope to secure Coyle by then. Burnley is also preparing to try and keep their coach who got them back to the Premier League, but many suspect Coyle’s lifelong attachment to Celtic will be too much and will see him at Celtic Park next season.
UPDATE: Celtic Rumors Twitter Feed says “Coyle’s mum says deal is done.” They were first to say that Celtic and Coyle were negotiating, so could this mean the deal is done?

Same source is now saying that Coyle knocked us back, so who knows what’s going on at this point.

to be honest I think he would be great. However it is not the right time. He should go onto the PL and then come on over when Burnley go back down in a year or two.

I think we can safely say no-one knows what is going on….

Did anyone see that Stephen Clarke is now in the running?
He may be just what Celtic are looking for:
1. 45 years old…pretty young2. Hungry for managerial chance after being No. 2 at West Ham, Chelsea
3. Purported Celtic supporter
4. Highly regarded in coaching circles – Zola kept him on and offered him a new 2-year deal; Jose M. tried to pursuade him to Inter when he left
5. Not part of Celtic or Rangers – actually a Buddie prior Chelsea days, I think.
6. Despite West Ham chairman’s financial problems, SC is used to “restricted” budgets
7. Has seen much newer European training / techniques from The Special One and Zola – Chelsea played great football under Jose and West Ham play great football under Zola
With Coyle out, then Clarke and Bilic are “push” for me

Celtic Rumors saying that Mowbray is a done deal. As they say…”We shall see.”

Hail! Hail!
After many days and nights searching for Celtic FC coaching news, I can honestly say I am pleased with the way things are unfolding at Parkhead…
1. Coyle
2. Mowbray
3. Bilic
4. MartinezAll young coaches whom playing technique driven, attacking football. Each with various levels of success.
Should Celtic reposition themsleves as the pinacle of “stepping stone” football clubs then Gaffers such as these are bound to attract younger, hungrier, more talented footballers looking to test their metal prior to big money moves abroad.
I am excited!

I agree Ryan. Even the “less fashionable” picks like McGhee or Levein play an attacking style of football that Celtic supporters seem to crave. Martinez has officially been offered the job apparently.
