Massimo Donati to Bari
By: Matt | August 27th, 2009Serie A club Bari have published on their website that the deal to bring Massimo Donati back to Italy has been completed. The site is reporting that the “formalities” of the deal should be completed by tomorrow. The Italian midfielder has spent the last two years with Celtic. Before his time in Glasgow, Donati began his career at Atalanta, before moving on to AC Milan in 2001. While with Milan, he was often sent out on loan, taking in spells at Parma, Torino, Sampdoria, Messina and back at Atalanta. He then moved to Scotland in 2007 and helped Celtic to the SPL title in his first season at Parkhead, as well as scoring a huge goal against Shaktar Donetsk in the Champions League to help secure passage to the Last 16. However, Donati soon fell out of favour under Gordon Strachan, though, and was thought to be on the move during the 2009 January transfer window. Donati remained though, and Gordon Strachan left, where soon after Donati seemed to have a new lease on life at Celtic, starting right away from the pre-season and playing well. Bari have said of the deal “Celtic have accepted Bari’s offer for the transfer of midfielder Massimo Donati,” read a statement released by Bari. The contract formalities will be completed on Friday. The player has agreed a four-year deal and he is expected in Bari on Monday.” The fee for Donati has not been announced.
It’s not always been a smooth ride for Donati at Celtic, and I’ve had my problems with some things he said in the media last year, but we’ll always remember this goal.

In a perhaps un-related bit of news, an American is in the process of buying Bari. So maybe they’re flush with cash.

I hope so Kirk. Maybe Donati is this guy’s “high profile” signing.
Seriously though, I hope this is a sale so that someone else can be brought in, or else I’m confused by the move.

Italian newspaper saying he was sold for 1.3 million Euros. Disappointing if that’s true.
