Scott Brown and Stephen McManus face injury time
By: Matt | June 22nd, 2009
When Tony Mowbray was first appointed as the new first team head coach of Celtic, many were hopeful to see the continued dominance of Scott Brown. Brooony flourished under Mowbray when the pair were at Hibs, earning Brown the highest transfer fee between Scottish clubs to bring him to Celtic. Mowbray will start his job without the services of Brown, which might include Champions League Qualifiers, as it has been reported that Brown will have to undergo surgery on his ankle. This will hurt Brown’s chances of appearing in Scotland’s World Cup Qualifiers, but seeing as I care as much about that as I do the WNBA, I won’t mention it again. More importantly, Celtic’s depth in the midfield will be tested in these all important Champions League Qualifiers, with Shunsuke Nakamura heading to Espanyol and Paul Hartley exploring other options as it initially appeared there would be no place for him at Celtic. Mowbray is expected to talk to Hartley this week to try and get him on the cheap, but Hearts, Colaship Sides, and Greek teams (he certainly seems to have the facial hair for Greece) have all contacted the good pirate Hartley.
Joining ToMo’s early season injury woes will be current (written like that to imply something) captain Stephen McManus will not be available either for the Champions League Qualifiers either. McManus will be recovering from the knee problems and subsequent surgery that kept him out of the end of last season. He will be recovering during the July 28-29 Qualifier in hopes to be ready for the beginning of the SPL season. While Mowbray might be after Marc-Antoine Fortune initially, he will likely be looking for some midfield depth, and possibly another centerback for cover in the transfer season.

It does suck that Brown will be out, but we have more mids than we know what to do with.
Annnnnnnnnnnd, no one cares about Mick. Loovens and O’Dea will be a fine pair.

Well Dr. Crane, maybe you were busy boring old people and giving hand jobs to the Emmy Academy to see that with Brown out, we’d have three less midfielders than last year. One of those midfielders is currently Massimo Donati, so we have 3 and a half midfielders out. I think ToMo needs to sing someone for depth.

Flood, Crosas, McCourt, Mizuno, McGeady, Maloney, Robson annnnnd Donati.
That is eight mids right there. Obviously you were asleep when we bought 20 mids, Matt.

And we have two center mids….well 2 and half. Like I said, trouble with depth.

Did you guys hear the one about ovaltine?
It’s Stephannie McManus’ favorite brand of milk flavoring product made.

Didn’t know we needed more than 3 center mids. At the max we’re playing 2 center mids, so with Donati as a BACKUP and Flood who played a bit in the center last year (and plays wide if we go to a wider formation) I’m perfectly fine with the depth.

Flood is unproven as fuck. I wouldnt trust him with holding a door let alone holding in our midfield.

Interesting thought Kenny, you hack. Noticed you didn’t mention McCourt in that comment either, yet he has the same experience. :sherlock:
