Scott Brown Fires Agent; Remains at Celtic

Scott Brown has told mega-wank agent Willie McKay to get lost, in order to take control of his own future. Since the end of last season, Brown has been linked with a move to a EPL club, most often with Tottenham. However, Brown has told the media that he told McKay that his services are not required at the moment and that he has no desire to leave Celtic right now. Brown said “I am not with Willie any more, I am free. I just think that as a free agent, I don’t have to worry about going to any club. I can just sit and be part of Celtic for the next couple of years. I am a Celtic player and I am looking forward to the Hibs match.” Most thought Brown was sure to go before next week’s transfer deadline, and a move is still possible. However, as Brown no longer has an agent, it puts a clear indicator on where he wants to be, as it would seem hard to negotiate a new contract with a possible buyer without representation. Tony Mowbray has emphasized recently that there still could be more comings and goings with Celtic though. He recently said “Football is a business and I am not here to fight the people who run the business,” said the Celtic manager. Players are sellable commodities, the biggest assets the club has got and as a manager you have to have an understanding of that. You want your players to believe you are trying to build a team, not break it up, and all decisions are talked through with myself and the Chief Executive Peter Lawwell. At the same time, if the money is too good to turn down, then it’s, ‘Right, let’s take it’ and I need to bring in a like-minded player. Myself, John Park, Mark Venus and Peter Grant are constantly looking because if we get £20 million for one guy and bring in another for £1.5 million and he is just as good — or we can coach to be as good — then that is great business.”
