Tempting the “Sign A F****** Left Back” Gods
By: Matt | July 21st, 2009
The last time I reported that Celtic were interested in a left back, he instead costed a Spanish club (not using that term to insult our Basque friends, just for sorting purposes) MORE FREAKING MONEY TO BUY than he would have for Celtic. Then Lee Naylor had a good game in Australia, playing on everyone’s fear that he could convince Tony Mowbray that he does, in fact, have a left foot, and not a rocket launcher set to the 12th row of the Jock Stein stand. In these situations, I often blame myself irrationally for things like this. I mentioned Celtic being linked with a left back? Poof, of to the Basque Country he goes. Don’t ask me why, but I do. Yet here I am, tempting these “Signing a Player Your Team Desperately Needs” again. Mainly, because hearing a rumor linking Celtic with a left back takes me from six to midnight, if you know what I am saying, here is a new rumor for you to chew on. Unsurprisingly, this left back comes from West Brom, but the agent for Marek Cech has said that Celtic and Twente have inquired about Cech’s services. Mowbray took Cech to West Brom from Porto in a £1.4m deal last summer, but Cech struggled to feature in the starting XI, unable to unseat Paul Robinson, making only three league starts and five substitute appearances all season. In January, Mowbray hinted that he would allow Cech, who was critical of his manager because of his lack of games, to leave West Brom. Is Gordon Strachan going to sign Massimo Donati, Bobo Balde, or Derek Riordan at his next job? West Brom say they don’t want to sell Cech, but they also said that with Mowbray. If Celtic want the left back, they might have to write the baggies a……. “cech”. I slay me.

Haven’t really heard of this guy. I think we should be careful, we don’t want to sign another Naylor just for the sake of signing.

I agree to a point SB, but I think we should both A)Trust Mogga until he gives us a reason not to and B) Get Lee Naylor as far away from Celtic park as possible.
