Will This Ever Get Done?
By: Matt | June 11th, 2009Celtic are interested, Tony Mowbray are interested, but there has yet to be a news conference with Mowbray holding the scarf above his head. Why is that, you might ask? It seems that West Brom Albion insists on being the petulant child, stomping their feet and holding their breath until they get their way. At first, West Brom would not admit that Celtic had contacted them about Mowbray, despite everyone else in Europe knowing that Celtic were in for Mowbray. Now, West Brom have finally admitted that Celtic have given them a ring about Mowbray, but are insisting that 2 million quid be given to them for Mowbray, and it seems that this is what is holding up this process. No one is suggesting that the Baggies should not be compensated, but coming out and giving a flat price in the press has all the tact of the annoying crying toddler in the supermarket. Why not privately negotiate with Peter Lawwell, take your money and buy some really nice Championship players, and wish Tony Mowbray well in Scotland? Instead, they insist on slowing down the process, and by doing so, they are almost guaranteeing a poor result for themselves. If West Brom continues to be stubborn, either they will end up going to an arbitrator with Mowbray to try and keep him, in which they’d probably lose the case, or Celtic will move on to another plan, like Standard Liege’s coach Laszlo Boloni who the Scotsman has tipped as Celtic’s plan B, and the Baggies will end up with a coach who has expressed he is ready to move on and 2 million quid less than expected. The ball is in your court, West Brom and for the best of both clubs, it is time to get this done.

I think if we play our cards right we can still get Peter Grant (in an Owen Coyle mask) on the cheap.

What a bunch of twats you Scots really are! There is a release clause in Mowbrays contract for 2 million. What’s to negotiate? Pay up or fuck off!

Some “big” club Celtic are that they can’t even pay 2million comp. Small club in a tin pot league, Mowbray would be mad going.

It is not Albion who are throwing their toys out of the Pram.
If Celtic are as ‘big’ a club as you all seem to think then pay the compensation. West Bromwich Albion won’t just roll over like some small time club, which we are not.
This shows Celtic in a very bad light… West Brom have been the professional club, and stated we will fight to keep Mowbray.
Celtic are used to getting what they want in their mickey mouse league, as the guy above says ‘pay up or fuck off’

petulant child, what an insult to the great club i love! agree with the above comments, celtic is not a massive club! your season ticket sales are way down than ever before and are being the ridiculous club in this situation. this worst thing written since the treaty of versailles!

What a load of old shite.
Let’s remember who put this in th epublic domain in the first place, it was Celtic, not West Brom. You started boys, we are replying by the same media.
This will not go to arbitration, it is a simple point of contractual law that governs both England & Scotland. If you want him, then you pay. If he breaks the contract unlawfully, then we take action in the manner that Simon Jordan did against Steve Bruce, and the courts will enforce the contract.
Stop crying over spilt milk, and behave like gentlemen for a change. For what it’s worth by the way, I hope you pay up. His football is mind numbingly boring, as is his smug self assured attitude. I can’t wait to see the back of him, and I’ve been saying that for two years.

Good on West Brom for playing hardball. The tattie munchers think that they are a big club but in reality they are merely big fish in a small pond. The biscuit tin bhoys know the score. £2,000,000. Surely such a huge club can afford that. Real Madrid just spent £136,000,000 on two players..Time to put up or shut up.

Baggyman.. Lets not tar all scots with the “twats” label.
If your gonna slag Celtic off I think your picking on the wrong nation. Celtic have a lot more to do with Ireland than they do Scotland…There’s 40 diddy teams in our leagues . The supporters of 38 of them dispise the followers of the other 2 and are constantly embarrassed by the Brothers of Bigotry…Posted from

I love all the intelligent banter regarding the size of WBA compared to Celtic. Perhaps we are a big fish in a small pond, but this fish has the recent scalps of United, Milan, and Donetsk on European nights. What has WBA got?
This fish has seen the likes of Sutton, Larrson, Lennon, McGeady and Nakamura while you were paying Kanu.
And as for the stipend in the contract…
If you are such a “big club”, I’d think you could drop a gaffer who clearly wants to be somewhere else and grab yourself the pick of the litter. But you can’t ’cause your director’s reputation as a twat preceeds him.Good luck. I hope Celtic tell WBA to “fuck off” and bag Owen Coyle or Slaven Bilic for the same compensation. Then y’all can deal with another manager shuffled off pissing about Jeremy Pearce. Then some of you baggies can find Megson, Robson, Mowbray and all bitch together.

Oh dear Ryan.
Never mind, if you can’t scrape together the £2m, it’s ok. I’m sure that Mogadon will go to United, Milan or Donesk. They may be his second choice behind the mighty hoops, but life is full of disappointment.
By the way, if we want to sack him, then our latest accounts prove that we have the money in the bank to pay £2m. We will act honourably, I haven’t heard of any law suits from messrs Megson or Robson concerning failing to honour their contracts. And that is the whole point, if we want rid it is our choice. If you want him, that is your choice. Either way will cost either us or you £2m. That’s called business. Throwing your toys out of the pram will not change the contents of his contract. Nobody is bitching, we are saying one thing with a clear voice from the Chairman down :- If you want Mowbray then settle his contract, which is drawn up in accordance with English Law. He is then yours, no argument.

Fact remains, Bhoys, you can’t raise £2m to trigger the release clause in his contract.
Never mind, eh? Move on to your fourth choice.

What a kok you really are you scottish *anker. At what point has Mowbray said he wants to leave? We have simply detailed that £2m is what is listed in his contract as a buy out clause. Bearing in mind that this contract Mowbray signed and agreed too. Get your facts right and f*k off back to you 2 horse league. Prick

Dear oh dear. What a poor article written with little grace and less judgement. I find it hard to believe that any real fan knows so little about what is happening around their own club. So lets dismiss some of these myths.
Myth no.1 Celtic had approached West Brom before Monday 8th. The last of these denials was on Saturday 6th – the same day that Peter Lawwells was saying that Celtic had not approached West Brom?
Myth no.2 We need to negotiate with Celtic. Why? Mowbray is under contract to West Brom, a contract signed in good faith, with a clause stating the amount that needed to be met in order for Mowbray to released. Nowhere does it say this is an amount from which we would be negotiated down. Don’t blame us, blame Mowbray – he signed the contract.
Myth no.3 It could go to arbitration and West Brom are most likely to lose. I am not sure you know how English contract law works. But even if a legal binding contract were overruled by the time you have your manager your European exploits could be ended.
Myth no.4 Boloni is plan B (as based on yesterdays Scotsman)- my you really do have your finger on the pulse don’t you? Boloni was being mentioned over 10 days ago and oh yes, the source of these rumours is – Boloni himself (although he did stress he had not had any contact with Celtic as such). But given that Mowbray is more like plan D I suspect Boloni is closer to being plan Z.
So if it all falls through congratulations you get Lazlo Boloni and we get the manager we’ve stressed we want to keep all along.

Jamie
Wanker, Fuck off and prick…excellent. A candidate for the Eleven-plus exam.
Why the assumption that Celtic can’t raise 2 million?
Perhaps its Celtic won’t give it to JP and playing their own cards:A. You have an unsettled manager and we still have options…
1. Reports are Owen Coyle has refused to sign his Burnley offer until he is afforded a chance to sort available transfer funds from Peter Lawell.
2. Slaven Bilic has submitted his CV of his own accord. He actually wants the job…and Celtic nae’ve ruled him out.
3. Tony MowbrayThat’s all right though. JP will use your parachute payment to balance the spread sheet and you and Derek McInnes can watch Wolves highlights

Ryan.. Typical Sellick fan..Such delusions of granduer.
Why would OC go to a two team league when he can sample the delights of the best league in Europe , pit his wits against such greats as Ex St.Johnstone player Sir Alex Ferguson and know that even if he fails to keep them up he will still be lauded. I’m sure a time will come when he will go to the tattie munchers but not this time. As for Bilic, he has no experience whatsoever of club management and will be gone in less than a year if Sellick are daft enough to give him a job.I would take great pleasure if St.Johnstone, sometime next spring could end the tenure of yet another duff Parkhead boss…
The longer this goes on the worse Sellick look and it does Scottish footballs reputation no good either..
It looks to me like you just aint got the spondulics to seal the deal…The biscuit tin is empty.

I am a Baggies fan and I don’t come to be hostile. I just found the last line of the article hilarious.
“The ball is in your court West Brom and for the best of both clubs it’s time to get this done”.Why on earth would west brom be bothered about what’s best for Celtic? West Brom like every other team in British football will do what’s best for themselves, end of story. If we want to keep our manager and there is a price we would not cave in. If Celtic had Mourinhio and Barcelona came along would Celtic think “to be honest I think we should give him away as that is what is best for Barcelona!”
That is life and as for petulant child, I was impressed with how well Strachan was treated after 3 titles in a row! Now that was classy……Posted from

Please, please, please Celtic stump up this 2 million to rid us of this great gentleman who loves soft feet & tippy tappy boring 20 passes sideways, 20 passes backwards supposedly attractive shit that we have had to endure this season. It may possibly work against all but Rangers in the SPL but wait for the defensive mistakes when you play against any players of quality, as proven last season. Heaven help you in Europe.
I have nothing but the highest respect for this man but please come and get him. Good luck if you do get him, we can then start rebuilding & getting some real men back into our squad.Willie Johnston, Scotlands greatest export, that is the quality WBA yearn for. Asa wont too bad either, McInnes more recently, Baggie legends.
Boing Boing.

Look, with all due civility…
It’s the sanctimony that is frustrating. At this very moment, WBA has done nothing to quell the rumors surrounding Derek McInnes – another promoted club’s manager – to circulate. WBA are engaging in the same shenanigans so loathed by the Baggies. They are “feeling out” options and “tapping up” a candidate. The distinct lack of comment from the Hawthornes is as significant as the story itself. Stop being so self- righteous and hypocritical
As for compensation and existing contracts…
It is naive to believe in the sanctity of these contracts. Even in England, sport is not defined by the same contract law as other industry. For example, the “new” rule regarding BSkyB being unable to monopolizing freely auctioned TV rights contracts. Sport is arbitrated under a different magistrate than other industry and player / management disputes are adjudicated / arbitrated using specific precident. Therefor, this whole affair is nothing more than angling and “negotiation”.Regarding the allure of the Prem…
That league may have the most money and the “best” talent, but is no different in its extreme than the SPL:
Beginning 1992, only sixteen times has a club even cracked the top four who wasn’t MANCHESTER UTD, ARSENAL; CHELSEA; LIVERPOOL. That’s 44 places and only 16 other clubs. A single club has dethroned the big four – Rovers 94-95. And look what trying to catch up to the pack did to ewcastle and Leeds. It is a league dominated by 51% non-English and four franchises. The rest, including your beloved Albion, feed off scraps. Stop slagging off the SPL and fix the strangle hold of your own league.Regarding matching wits with the vaunted…
Yes, in the Prem one can match wits with SAF twice, perhaps three times a season. That is the same in Europe for Celtic. Dependant on our draw, Celtic gaffers get SAF twice but also Pellegrini, Semin, Mourinho, Guardiola, etc. All managers whose clubs achieved enough success to participate in the competition. This as apposed to SAF one week followed by Tony Adams, Billy Davies, Steve Bruce for whichever club he’s trying to escape, and then Gareth Southgate, Ian Dowie, ‘Arry Redknapp, etc, etc, etc. Give me a break.Over the past three seasons I feel “Sellick” came to the realization they will NEVER wade in the same financial water as “big” clubs. Therefor, they’re determined to be the best penultimate step. Celtic have world class training complexes, a first class derby, excruciating media pressure, global exposure and appeal, European football virtually every year and significant history.
They are looking to tempt a younger, more talented up-and-coming manager to attract younger, more talented up-and-coming players on short term basis’, thus fashioning themselves as the place where one may finally hone their skill before the dream jump to the deep end of the pool.
As for the rest of this, I’m done.
