The End of an Era
By: Matt | October 24th, 2009
Hi there. Sorry I’ve been gone for so long, but computer access has been limited for me the past week. Unfortunately though, this will be my final post as the author of the Celtic Offside. For a variety of reasons, I will not be able to continue to post on the Celtic Offside. While Celtic seem to be struggling right now, do not take me leaving the Celtic Offside as me leaving Celtic. I will not be able to continue to give this blog the proper attention and care it deserves, so if you believe that you can, email Daryl here at The Offside at daryl@theoffside.com with a writing sample. I hope that a commenter like Ryan, Quinn, Rut, or one of you guys will be able to keep the torch going here and pick up where I left off. If you are a lurker, but think you have what it takes to make bad dick jokes, pot shots at Rangers and Aberdeen, and think that Celtic is the greatest fucking team, no matter what the standings say, then you might be the perfect candidate for the writer of this blog. After almost two years of reading my drivel, the readers will have low expectations, so you will have that going for you. You also must be able to go on The Offside main page and make everyone froth at the mouth in the comment section, including EPL Fans, lower SPL team supporters, and a staff member of The Offside who supports an MLS team run by a bunch of fat guys. If this seems like something you can do, please shoot Daryl an email. But now, for the final time, let’s look at tomorrow’s match up between Celtic and Hamilton.
Is it a coincidence that I am making my exit after Rangers draw with Hibs and Celtic have an opportunity to jump back into first place in a seemingly endless game of leap frog at the top of the SPL standings. Yes it is, you big jerk. Stop reading into everything. So what that Celtic is playing Hamilton, one of the worst teams in the SPL and Marc Antoine Fortune and Danny Fox will be back into the line up to hopefully help the floundering Bhoys. Quit being so cynical, damn it! Yes, finally Marc Antoine Fortune will return to the squad after injuring himself against Arsenal in the Champions League qualifier. Since Scott McDonald and Georgios Samaras have the first touch of a U8 with Attention Deficit Disorder, Fortune and his ability to hold onto the ball is a welcome sight. Danny Fox is also another sight for sore eyes for Celtic supporters after having to relive the nightmare that is Lee Naylor for a few weeks. Jesus, that was scary. Is it a coincidence that Celtic’s struggles seem to be linked with Lee Naylor being in the first XI? Now it’s my turn to be cynical and say, absofuckinglutely. Fox should be in the starting XI, but Fortune might only make the bench for tomorrow’s match.
While Celtic have been poor the last few weeks, some cream puffs in the schedule just might be what the doctor ordered. Celtic travel to New Douglas Park this Sunday for 11th place Hamilton, then home to Kilmarnock, and away to Falkirk. The Accies are only averaging 0.5 goals per game and have a -10 goal differential so far. Another hopefully positive for this weekend is the Bhoys prowess on the road. Celtic have won every SPL match away from Celtic park this season apart from the Rangers match.
Before I depart into the sunset of the Tim-ernet, I would like to sincerely thank every one of you who have ever read anything I have ever written on here. I have learned so much from writing this blog and have enjoyed every minute of the nearly two years that I have been here. From the last Sunday at Tannadice to last year’s trainwreck, this blog has been an important part of my life and my life as a Celtic supporter. I’d like to thank Ian from the Caley and SPL blogs here for helping me out, despite me being the typical Celtic supporter who thinks that Celtic is the best thing to happen to the SPL. I’d like to thank any Aberdeen fans who read this for taking my countless sheep jokes in stride. I’d also like to thank Huns supporters for sometimes making my job way too fucking easy. Nice job racially abusing your own player, you twats. BWAHAHAHAHAHA! I’d like to thank Daryl and the rest of the crew at The Offside main page for giving me this opportunity. I’d like to thank Kevin from the Lord of the Wing blog for giving me the inspiration to write about Celtic and helping me out when I was just starting. Finally, once again, I would like to thank you, the reader, for giving a cynical jerk a chance. I’ve enjoyed writing you my assorted ramblings and I hope you’ve enjoyed at least some of them. If you can’t get enough of my bad jokes and opinions about Celtic, head over to the Na Dead Raibead Celtic Forum and ask for Rudy.
Over and over, we will follow you. Over and over, we will see it through. For we are Celtic supporters, faithful through and through. Over and over we will follow you!
